Job summary

UGL is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer, Primary Systems to join our North Sydney-based Utilities engineering team. You will provide conceptual and detailed primary design for HV substations, transmission, BESS, solar and wind farm projects.

As a senior team member, you will lead design packages, check outputs, coordinate interfaces and guide engineers and drafters to deliver practical, constructable solutions that meet safety, quality, programme and budget requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
• At least eight years’ experience in the primary design of HV plants or substations
• Proven experience leading primary substation design packages across major utility, mining or renewable energy projects
• Experience with HV cable, earthing, lightning protection, insulation coordination, EMF and lighting design
• Knowledge of primary design software such as CYMCAP and CDEGS; Chartered status preferred

Responsibilities

• Lead primary design packages and coordinate engineering deliverables across tender and project phases
• Develop and review substation configurations, plant layouts, busbar systems, electrical clearances, underground services and equipment specifications
• Undertake or oversee HV cable, earthing, lightning protection, insulation coordination, EMF, corona and lighting design
• Check and verify engineering work for technical accuracy, compliance, constructability and interface coordination
• Plan and monitor design activities against delivery schedules, budgets and project priorities
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to engineers, designers and drafting personnel
• Support customer and site visits, procurement, construction, commissioning, tendering and technical evaluations as required
