Job summary

AirSWIFT is seeking a Senior Electrical Designer to join a global engineering team in Gladstone, Queensland. You will deliver electrical design and drafting across major industrial and infrastructure projects, ensuring compliance with Australian standards and project requirements.

The role supports concept to commissioning, with a flexible hybrid arrangement for local candidates based in Gladstone or able to attend the office part of the week.

Qualifications

• Advanced Diploma of Engineering Technology (Electrical) or Electrical Trade qualification with Electrical Design, Drafting and Estimating certification.
• Electrical Licence highly regarded.
• Minimum 12 years' experience in electrical design and drafting within heavy industry, resources, infrastructure, energy or related sectors.
• Experience delivering projects from concept design through to commissioning and handover.
• Proficiency in MicroStation SE and AutoCAD 2018+.

Responsibilities

• Deliver electrical design and drafting services in accordance with project scope and standards.
• Prepare and develop electrical drawings, layouts, schematics, single line diagrams and termination diagrams.
• Support projects across concept, detailed design, construction and commissioning phases.
• Ensure designs meet safety, sustainability and asset lifecycle requirements.
• Coordinate with engineering disciplines for integrated design packages.
• Support design reviews, workshops and stakeholder discussions.

Airswift is partnering with a leading global engineering and professional services organisation to recruit a Senior Electrical Designer supporting a portfolio of major industrial, resources and infrastructure projects based in Gladstone, Queensland.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a high-performing engineering team delivering multidisciplinary projects across the full asset lifecycle, from concept and detailed design through to construction and commissioning.

Working closely with engineering teams, clients and project stakeholders, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality electrical design and drafting solutions while ensuring compliance with Australian standards, project requirements and industry best practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver electrical design and drafting services in accordance with project scope, client requirements and industry standards.
• Prepare and develop electrical drawings, layouts, schematics, single line diagrams, termination diagrams and related documentation.
• Support projects across all phases including concept development, detailed design, construction and commissioning.
• Ensure design outcomes consider safety, sustainability, operability, maintainability and asset lifecycle requirements.
• Coordinate with engineering disciplines and project teams to ensure seamless integration across design packages.
• Support project reviews, design workshops and technical discussions with key stakeholders.
• Assist with project estimates, schedules, forecasts and reporting where required.
• Interpret and apply relevant Australian electrical standards and statutory requirements.
• Conduct self-checking and quality reviews of deliverables in accordance with company procedures.
• Identify design challenges, develop innovative solutions and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
• Support digital engineering and emerging technology adoption, including AI-enabled design tools and workflows.
• Maintain effective communication with clients, contractors and internal project teams throughout project delivery.

About You

• Advanced Diploma of Engineering Technology (Electrical) or Electrical Trade qualification with Electrical Design, Drafting and Estimating certification.
• Electrical Licence highly regarded.
• Minimum 12 years' experience in electrical design and drafting within heavy industry, resources, infrastructure, energy or related sectors.
• Demonstrated experience delivering projects from concept design through to commissioning and handover.
• Strong knowledge of Australian electrical standards and engineering design practices.
• Proficiency in MicroStation SE and/or AutoCAD 2018 and above.
• Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel.
• Extensive experience preparing dsngle line diagrams, schematics, termination diagrams, block diagrams, cable routing layouts, equipment layouts, lighting designs, earthing layouts
• Experience interfacing with control systems and instrumentation.
• Understanding of equipment integration, field devices, as-built documentation, construction support and commissioning activities.
• Knowledge of shutdown planning requirements and design considerations.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement and problem-solving skills.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
