Job summary

The University of Newcastle is seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer to advance digital platforms across the enterprise stack. You will lead a cross-functional team, architect scalable solutions and mentor developers at the Callaghan Campus.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience building on enterprise platforms with complex dependencies.
• Proven leadership and team mentorship across multiple stakeholders.
• Hands-on DevOps with automation, observability, IaC and deployment tooling.
• Strong troubleshooting of scalability and performance with ITSM experience.
• Experience implementing security, risk, and compliance controls in enterprise environments.
• Excellent communication to diverse IT stakeholders and vendors.
• Awareness of workplace obligations and fostering an inclusive workplace.

Responsibilities

• Develop and provision software and infrastructure across enterprise platforms, ensuring scalability and security.
• Lead design and implementation of AI-assisted development and CI/CD pipelines, automation and observability.
• Coordinate end-to-end system design and deployment to meet stakeholder needs.
• Provide expert guidance and training on technology platforms to University staff.
• Troubleshoot complex scalability and performance issues across multi-system environments.
• Oversee code quality, deployments, and enforce development standards.
• Ensure platform health via maintenance, upgrades and secure coding practices.
• Mentor a small team of developers and support growth with coaching.
• Build strong relationships with stakeholders, partners and vendors.
