Job summary

Paxus is partnering with a large Federal Government program to engage an experienced Senior DevOps / Cloud Engineer to help modernise and operate critical cloud platforms and DevSecOps capabilities supporting enterprise data and analytics environments.

You’ll work closely with delivery teams to provide and support secure, scalable environments with automation, self-service, and strong DevSecOps practices. Hybrid Canberra-based role with on-site requirements.

Qualifications

• Senior DevOps/Cloud Engineer with Azure and hybrid environments.
• Strong IaC skills with Terraform/Bicep/ARM.
• Proven delivery of secure-by-design cloud solutions (DevSecOps).
• Experience with monitoring, incident resolution and runbooks/documentation.

Senior DevOps Engineer (Cloud/DevSecOps)

Paxus is partnering with a large Federal Government program to engage an experienced Senior DevOps / Cloud Engineer to help modernise and operate critical cloud platforms and DevSecOps capabilities supporting enterprise data and analytics environments.

Contract details

• Contract duration: To 30 June 2027 + Up to 2 x 12 months
• Location: Canberra (ACT)
• Working arrangement: Hybrid – on-site full-time for the first month (or until across the ICT landscape), then minimum 2 days/week on-site in Canberra
• Security: Baseline clearance

The opportunity

You’ll work closely with delivery teams to provide and support secure, scalable environments that enable fast, reliable delivery through automation, self-service, and strong DevSecOps practices. The work spans Azure and hybrid cloud platforms, with a strong focus on infrastructure as code, CI/CD, cloud security controls, and operational excellence (monitoring, resilience, cost optimisation).

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and support secure, scalable, resilient cloud infrastructure and platform services
• Build and maintain Azure and hybrid cloud environments aligned to standards
• Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Bicep, ARM templates, or equivalent)
• Design/implement/support CI/CD pipelines for automated deployments (app + infrastructure)
• Embed DevSecOps controls across the delivery lifecycle (security, compliance, quality)
• Cloud networking, IAM, encryption, monitoring/logging/observability
• Optimise availability, performance, resilience and cost efficiency
• Troubleshoot complex infrastructure/deployment/operations issues
• Implement and remediate security controls aligned to Australian Government security requirements (ISM/PSPF)
• Vulnerability management, patching, dependency updates, technical debt reduction
• Backup/DR/BCP support
• Participate in design reviews, architecture governance and technical assurance
• Provide technical leadership/mentoring and contribute to documentation and knowledge transfer

What we’re looking for

Essential experience

• Senior DevOps / Cloud Engineering experience in Azure and hybrid environments
• Strong IaC skills (Terraform/Bicep/ARM or similar)
• Strong CI/CD engineering capability and automation mindset
• Proven delivery of secure-by-design cloud solutions (DevSecOps)
• Experience with monitoring/observability, incident/problem resolution, and operational support (runbooks, documentation)
• Ability to work on-site in Canberra as per the hybrid requirements

Desirable

• Prior Federal Government / regulated environment experience
• Hands-on experience with DR testing and recovery procedures
• Familiarity with enterprise data/analytics platforms (data platforms context)
