Job summary

Ambition Recruitment is seeking an experienced Senior Database Administrator to own end-to-end performance, availability, security, and lifecycle management of enterprise database platforms across production and non-production environments.

You will collaborate with Infrastructure and IT teams to influence architecture decisions, contribute to long-term technology roadmaps, and ensure databases supporting critical business systems are reliable and optimised.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of senior database administration in enterprise environments.
• Strong expertise in Microsoft SQL Server administration and HA architectures.
• Experience with backup, recovery and disaster recovery planning/testing.
• Solid understanding of database security and data protection.
• Ability to troubleshoot complex database issues and document processes.

Responsibilities

• Own production and non-production database environments with high availability and data integrity.
• Install, configure, monitor, and optimise databases including performance tuning and capacity planning.
• Contribute to database architecture and technology roadmaps.
• Implement security controls including access management, encryption and auditing.
• Design, maintain, and test backups, recovery, and DR capabilities.
• Provide database support for key enterprise applications and upgrades/migrations.
• Develop and optimise SQL, stored procedures and scripts for automation.
• Collaborate with IT and business teams on data platform projects.

Job description

We are looking for an experienced Senior Database Administrator to join a well-established national organisation. This role owns the end-to-end performance, availability, security, and lifecycle management of the firm's enterprise database platforms, ensuring the databases supporting critical business systems remain reliable, secure, and optimised.

You'll be the go-to database subject matter expert, working closely with Infrastructure and IT teams to keep platforms running smoothly while contributing to architecture decisions and long-term technology roadmaps.

Responsibilities include:

• Own and manage all production and non-production database environments, ensuring high availability, stability, performance, and data integrity
• Install, configure, maintain, monitor and optimise databases, including performance tuning and capacity planning
• Contribute to database architecture, design decisions and technology roadmaps
• Implement database security controls including access management, encryption and auditing
• Design, maintain and regularly test backup, recovery and disaster recovery capabilities
• Provide database support for key enterprise applications, ensuring reliable operation and upgrade readiness
• Develop and optimise SQL, stored procedures and scripts to support automation and reporting
• Partner with IT and business teams on projects involving data platforms, upgrades and migrations

Experience needed:

• 5+ years' experience in senior database administration within enterprise environments
• Strong expertise in Microsoft SQL Server administration, performance tuning and high-availability architectures
• Proven experience with backup, recovery and disaster recovery planning and testing
