Job summary

Agrifutures in Melbourne CBD is seeking an experienced Senior Database Engineer/DBA to own a key discovery project in a complex legacy environment and expand into ongoing optimisation, reliability, migration and platform improvements.

You will work hands‑on across AWS and MySQL/Aurora MySQL, map schemas and data flows, and create clear technical documentation while collaborating with business stakeholders to understand the environment.

Job description

We’re looking for an experienced Senior Database Engineer / DBA with strong AWS and MySQL experience to join an established technology team.

Initially, you’ll take ownership of a key database discovery piece, getting under the hood of a complex legacy environment to understand how the data is structured, connected and used. From there, the role will broaden into ongoing database optimisation, reliability, migration and platform improvement work.

What you’ll be doing

• Work hands-on across AWS and MySQL/Aurora MySQL
• Analyse and reverse-engineer complex database structures
• Map schemas, relationships, dependencies and data flows
• Create clear technical documentation and data models
• Support database performance, reliability and optimisation
• Contribute to future migration, archival and platform initiatives
• Work with technical and business stakeholders to understand and document the environment

What we’re looking for

• Strong commercial AWS and MySQL experience
• Background as a Senior DBA, Database Engineer or similar
• Strong SQL and database administration/engineering skills
• Experience with complex or legacy database environments
• Exposure to data modelling, migration, lineage or database discovery
• Strong communication and documentation skills
• AWS Aurora MySQL experience highly regarded
• Exposure to MongoDB, DynamoDB, S3, Kafka or PHP/Laravel is beneficial but not essential.

Location: Melbourne CBD

Hybrid: 2 days per week in the office

Contract: 12-month FTC with potential to become permanent
