Trade, Employment and Training in Brisbane is recruiting a Senior Data Analyst to lead Anticipating Future Skills analytics. The role focuses on delivering actionable insights from labour market data, demographic and administrative sources.

Be part of a future-focused program shaping how Queensland understands and prepares for changing jobs and skills. This role will play a central role in delivering Anticipating Future Skills (AFS) analytical products and services on behalf of Jobs Queensland.

Working under the technical leadership of the Principal Data Analyst, you will support the delivery of an evolving AFS analytical product portfolio. You will help embed modern analytical practices, strengthen the quality and efficiency of analytical product delivery and ensure AFS outputs are rigorous, reproducible and responsive to stakeholder needs.

This is an opportunity to move beyond descriptive analytics and contribute to a growing capability to deliver a forward-looking system-level overview of how Queensland’s labour market is expected to change.

The Research team services Jobs Queensland (JQ) and the Department of Trade, Employment and Training (DTET), including equipping the JQ Board with robust evidence and analysis and translating its advice into work that is rigorous, credible and decision-useful.
Jobs Queensland is an independent statutory entity that provides expert, evidencebased, industry-led advice to the Queensland Government to support the strengthening of Queensland's current and future workforce.
The flagship program of JQ is Anticipating Future Skills (AFS) employment projections. AFS projections are developed using economic and labour market modelling. The Research team is the program owner and undertakes analysis of AFS outputs to provide insights on Queensland's labour market outlook. The team supports work utilised in whole-of-government and industry forums including the annual JQ AFS roundtable held in November each year.

As the Senior Data Analyst, you will apply statistical and analytical methods to complex labour market, economic, demographic and administrative data, translating evidence into clear, actionable insights that support strategic decision making.

• Lead the delivery of assigned Anticipating Future Skills (AFS) analytical products and services, ensuring outputs are timely, robust, reproducible and responsive to stakeholder needs.
• Operate in an industry-government environment working across administrative, survey and emerging datasets, contributing to strengthening the analytical foundations of AFS and informing its future evolution.

What we are looking for

The position requires an applicant who can:

• apply quantitative, spatial and analytical methods to understand labour market, workforce, economic or related complex systems.
• translate complex analytical findings into clear, evidence-based advice and products for both technical and non-technical audiences.
• develop, deliver and continuously improving analytical products and services.
• coordinate analytical projects and work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams and with external stakeholders to deliver high-quality outcomes.
• improve analytical methods, production processes and data utilisation through automation, modern analytics platforms and reproducible analytical workflows with proficiency in R, Python and/or SQL to deliver quality-assured analytical products.

This role is available up to 31 December 2026 initially with possibility of extension up to 12 months.
