Job description

Turn complex budget data into clear insights that help shape decisions for Queensland.

As Senior Data Analyst in Budget Office, you will build reporting, dashboards and analytical solutions using Excel, Power Query, Power BI and SQL, while supporting key products that underpin the State Budget process.

This is an opportunity to combine technical expertise, data storytelling and stakeholder collaboration in a central agency role with outcomes that matter across government.

Your new opportunity

Use your data expertise to support one of Queensland Government's most significant financial processes. As Senior Data Analyst in Budget Office, you will transform complex information into trusted analysis, reporting and visualisations that support the annual State Budget, financial reporting, forecasting and executive decision-making. You will work across Budget Office functions, contribute to the improvement of key digital products and collaborate with stakeholders to deliver practical solutions that make data easier to understand and use.

In This Role, You Will
  • Apply advanced analytical techniques to uncover insights that inform government funding decisions, financial planning and performance monitoring.
  • Design contemporary reporting and visualisation products that make complex information accessible and useful to decision makers.
  • Help strengthen the digital tools and analytical processes used to coordinate budget information and communicate government initiatives.
  • Understand how information moves through Budget Office systems and identify opportunities to improve reliability, efficiency and usability.
  • Turn analysis into clear and compelling narratives, briefings and visual products tailored to a range of audiences, including executives.
  • Partner with stakeholders to understand their needs and deliver practical solutions that uphold strong standards of quality, governance and security.
What Experience You Will Bring
  • Demonstrated experience creating high-quality analytics, business intelligence, reporting and visual products that enable informed decisions.
  • Strong capability across Excel, Power Query, SQL and Power BI, with the confidence to develop effective reports and dashboards. Exposure to Azure Synapse, Databricks or Python would be an advantage.
  • The ability to distil complex information into clear, meaningful insights and communicate them confidently to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • A collaborative and service-focused approach, supported by sound judgement, attention to detail and the ability to adapt when priorities shift.

Whilst there are no mandatory qualifications needed for this role, relevant qualifications will be highly regarded.
