Job summary

NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) seeks a Senior Cyber Security Officer to protect information and systems across ICT. You will lead complex security initiatives, provide trusted advice, and work with stakeholders to embed security in technology decisions while mentoring others to raise cyber resilience.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience implementing and supporting enterprise cyber security services across identity, endpoint, network, cloud, application and data protection.
• Strong technical capabilities in security monitoring, vulnerability management and cyber incident response.
• Experience leading cyber security investigations, threat analysis, digital forensic activities and post-incident reviews.
• Ability to assess security risks and recommend practical remediation strategies.
• Understanding of NSW Cyber Security Policy, Essential Eight, ISO 27001 and NIST CSF.
• Experience developing security standards and embedding security into technology projects.
• Ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Collaborative approach with ICT teams, stakeholders and external providers.
• Commitment to mentoring and strengthening organisational cyber resilience.
• Understanding the needs of a volunteer-based emergency service organisation.

Responsibilities

• Provide specialist technical advice and lead hands-on initiatives to protect NSW RFS information, systems and services.
• Strengthen security controls, investigate and respond to cyber threats, identify vulnerabilities and improve resilience.
• Embed security into technology decisions and mentor colleagues to build cyber security capability.
• Investigate threats, assess vulnerabilities and translate findings into practical risk-reducing recommendations.
