Job summary

Avant Mutual Group is seeking a Senior Cyber Security Engineer to design, automate and optimize security controls across cloud, SaaS and on‑prem environments. You will lead automation efforts, integrate security platforms and drive measurable risk reduction through DevSecOps practices.

The role focuses on enhancing monitoring, detection and response capabilities, ongoing remediation, and collaboration with technology teams to enable secure delivery while reducing risk.

Qualifications

• Experience in Security Engineering, Infrastructure/SaaS security or related cyber security discipline.
• Experience across multiple domains: SIEM, EDR, Cloud, Email, Network security, Vulnerability management or SASE.
• Strong networking, OS, identity, cloud and SaaS security knowledge.
• Scripting, APIs, automation and DevOps-style practices using PowerShell or Python.

Are you passionate about building security controls that scale through automation? We are looking for a Senior Cyber Security Engineer who combines deep technical expertise with strong automation capability to engineer, optimise and continuously improve Avant's cyber security environment.

We are seeking a hands on engineer who can automate, integrate and innovate, using scripting, APIs and DevOps practices to enhance security monitoring, streamline remediation and deliver measurable risk reduction across cloud, SaaS and on-premises environments.

Key accountabilities:

• Design, build and maintain security controls across cloud, SaaS and on-premises environments
• Own and optimise key security platforms, ensuring they remain effective, resilient and aligned to business needs
• Develop automation, integrations and DevSecOps practices that improve security operations and reduce manual effort
• Enhance security monitoring, detection and response capabilities through SIEM onboarding, detection engineering and workflow optimisation
• Review and govern network security policies, including firewall rules, segmentation and secure connectivity controls
• Support vulnerability remediation and secure configuration activities across the technology landscape
• Partner with technology and business teams to enable secure delivery and reduce risk
• Provide technical leadership, mentoring and guidance to other Security Engineers
• Contribute to engineering standards, architecture patterns and continuous improvement initiatives

Skills and experience required:

• Previous experience in Security Engineering, Infrastructure Security, Cloud Security or a related cyber security discipline
• Experience across multiple security domains such as SIEM, EDR, Cloud Security, Email Security, Network Security, Vulnerability Management or SASE
• Strong understanding of networking, operating systems, identity, cloud and SaaS security
• Experience with scripting, APIs, automation and DevOps-style practices using technologies such as PowerShell, Python or similar
• Experience implementing and integrating security controls in hybrid environments
• Ability to translate security requirements, regulatory obligations and risk outcomes into practical engineering solutions
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills
• A collaborative approach and willingness to share knowledge and mentor others

Highly regarded

Experience with technologies such as CrowdStrike, Netskope, Mimecast, Abnormal AI, SIEM platforms, IDAM/PAM solutions, Microsoft Azure and AWS will be advantageous, as will industry certifications including CISSP, CISM, CCSP, AZ-500, SC-200, Security+ or OSCP.
