Job summary

Turner & Townsend in Australia seeks an experienced Senior Cost Manager to join a high-performing team delivering retail projects for a national client. You will lead cost planning, budgeting, procurement, and final accounts across multiple store renewals and refurbishments, ensuring value and timely reporting.

You will collaborate with clients, project managers, contractors and consultants, mentor junior staff, and maintain market knowledge to deliver accurate commercial advice and robust cost

Qualifications

• Degree qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or related field.
• Minimum 8 years' experience in Cost Management or QS.
• Experience in cost planning, estimating, procurement, and final accounts.
• Client, contractor and consultant relationship management.
• Intermediate to advanced Excel skills.

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Cost Manager to join a high-performing team delivering retail projects for a key national client.

This role offers the opportunity to work across a diverse portfolio of new store, renewal, and refurbishment projects, providing end-to-end cost management services from concept design through to final account settlement.

You will work closely with client stakeholders, project managers, contractors, and consultants to ensure successful project outcomes across multiple retail programs.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead pre-contract cost planning and estimating services during project design phases.
• Prepare, review and manage project budgets across multiple retail projects.
• Manage procurement and tender evaluation activities.
• Assess progress claims, contract variations, and final accounts.
• Monitor project costs and provide commercial advice to clients and project teams.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with Woolworths project teams and key stakeholders.
• Support and mentor junior team members.
• Engage with local construction and property markets to maintain current market knowledge and cost benchmarks.
• Collaborate with cost management and project management teams across multiple locations.
• Deliver accurate reporting, forecasting, and commercial advice.
• Take ownership of project deliverables and manage projects independently.

Qualifications

Essential

• Degree qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 8 years' experience in Cost Management, Quantity Surveying, or a similar role.
• Strong experience in:
  • Cost planning and estimating
  • Contract administration
  • Procurement and tendering
  • Progress claim assessment
  • Variation management
  • Final account negotiations
• Experience managing relationships with clients, contractors, and consultants.
• Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

Desirable

• Membership or accreditation with RICS and/or AIQS.
• Experience using CostX.
• Previous experience delivering retail, commercial, or multi-site programs of work.
• Exposure to national account or portfolio-based project delivery environments.
