Job summary

Fortescue Metals Group is seeking an experienced Superintendent – Control Systems Commissioning to lead commissioning across decarbonisation projects and mine sites from the Perth office. You will manage a team of engineers and contractors, define commissioning plans and ensure safe, timely handover of systems.

This role requires deep PLC/HMI/SCADA knowledge, strong leadership, and a track record in complex industrial environments with a focus on safety and reliability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems, Mechatronics or related engineering discipline.
• Minimum 10 years' experience delivering industrial control systems, automation or electrical infrastructure projects.
• Strong knowledge of PLCs, HMI/SCADA, industrial networks and control system architecture.
• Demonstrated experience in control systems commissioning, testing and integration in complex industrial environments.
• Proven technical and people leadership skills with experience mentoring multidisciplinary teams.
• Understanding and application of functional safety standards (IEC 62061, IEC 61508, ISO 13849).
• Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Excellent organisational, planning, communication and stakeholder management.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing project requirements.
• Committed to safety, quality and successful commissioning outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Lead planning and execution of control systems commissioning across decarbonisation projects and Fortescue mine sites.
• Manage commissioning engineers, technicians and contractors including resource allocation and development.
• Develop commissioning plans, procedures and schedules for readiness across teams.
• Oversee PLC, HMI/SCADA, and industrial network testing and integration with site infrastructure.
• Lead troubleshooting and resolve defects with engineering teams.
• Collaborate with site operations for smooth handover and acceptance.
• Ensure safety through risk assessments, permits, isolations and testing controls.
• Manage commissioning documentation, punch lists, progress reporting and risks.
• Oversee control systems bridges and bypasses with proper approvals and removal before handover.
• Drive commissioning performance and continuous improvement with stakeholders.
