Job summary

Department of Transport and Major Infrastructure (DTMI) seeks a Principal Contracts Officer to join its Central Contracting Team in Finance and Procurement Services. The role focuses on complex contract development, tendering and procurement, with senior guidance to evaluate performance and ensure compliance.

You will mentor Contracts Officers, build capability, and contribute to a customer‑focussed, collaborative team.

Qualifications

• Substantial experience in complex contracts, tendering and procurement environments.
• Strong knowledge of supply policies, public sector procurement practices and risk management.
• Well-developed problem-solving, conceptual and analytical skills.
• Excellent communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills.
• A positive, resilient attitude under pressure or when managing complex situations.
• Strong organisational and prioritisation skills with multiple projects.
• Ability to work autonomously while being an effective team player.
• Genuine interest in mentoring, educating and supporting others.
• High level of attention to detail, diplomatic and accountable.
• Acting with integrity and initiative in procurement processes.

Responsibilities

• Provide specialist advice on complex contract development and management, including contract formation, tender documentation, procurement planning, evaluation and contract performance.
• Work closely with internal and external stakeholders to support best-practice procurement outcomes.
• Contribute to continuous improvement across policies, standards, guidelines and processes.
• Mentor Contracts Officers to build capability and confidence within a collaborative, customer-focused team.
