Job description

Senior Consultant, Energy Markets
Sydney or Melbourne

Overview

Enemix is partnering with a fast-growing specialist energy consultancy that sits right at the centre of Australia’s energy transition. They work on some of the country’s largest utility-scale solar and BESS projects, as well as large data centre developments. Their Advisory and Project Delivery teams work side by side, so they can support clients from early strategy and development all the way through to grid connection, financial close, and energisation.

The business has grown quickly over the past two years and now an emerging leader in the data centre space. They are now hiring a Senior Consultant to strengthen the commercial side of their Energy Advisory practice. You will work on engagements on offtake strategy, PPA structuring, revenue optimisation, and market entry for generation and storage assets. Your clients will include renewable developers, major corporates, infrastructure and investment funds, utilities, and network operators.

This role suits a commercially minded energy markets professional who wants real ownership of client outcomes, direct access to leadership, and a team where commercial, technical, and delivery people work together. It is a position with clear scope to help build the commercial advisory offering as the business grows.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead commercial advisory engagements end to end, from scoping and proposal through to delivery and client sign-off
  • Advise clients on offtake and route-to-market strategy for solar, wind, and BESS assets, including PPAs, tolling arrangements, hedging, and merchant exposure
  • Structure, evaluate, and support negotiation of PPAs and wholesale energy contracts for both developers and corporate buyers
  • Build and review commercial and transaction models to support investment decisions, project finance, and financial close
  • Provide market insight and strategy covering NEM dynamics, price outlooks, REC and LGC markets, and regulatory change
  • Deliver techno-commercial due diligence and transaction support for investors, lenders, and acquirers
  • Advise on power procurement and energy strategy for large energy users, including data centre developers
  • Present clear, practical recommendations to senior stakeholders, boards, and investment committees
  • Mentor junior consultants and help shape commercial advisory methodologies, tools, and thought leadership
  • Find and grow client relationships to support business development and repeat work
Key Requirements
  • Significant experience in electricity markets, gained in commercial advisory, origination, trading, or wholesale transactions
  • Proven track record structuring or advising on PPAs, offtake agreements, or wholesale energy contracts
  • Strong understanding of NEM structure, AEMO market operations, and the regulatory framework
  • Strong commercial and financial modelling skills, with experience in transaction analysis and project valuation
  • Sound knowledge of renewable generation and BESS revenue stacks, including energy arbitrage, FCAS, and contracting approaches
  • Familiarity with REC and LGC markets and the related compliance requirements
  • Confident client manager who builds trust quickly and can influence senior decision-makers
  • Excellent communicator who can turn complex market dynamics into clear, commercial advice
  • Structured thinker who is comfortable with ambiguity and tight deadlines
  • Collaborative working style, with the ability to work across technical, commercial, and delivery teams
Highly regarded:
  • A background in management consulting, energy advisory, or professional services
  • Hands-on trading, portfolio management, or origination experience
  • Exposure to project finance, M&A, or capital raising in the energy sector
What’s on Offer
  • Meaningful work: Advise on nationally significant solar, BESS, data centre, and network projects that are shaping Australia’s energy future
  • Variety: Work with leading developers, top-tier contractors, investment funds, and utilities, across the full project lifecycle
  • Ownership and visibility: Lead your own engagements with direct access to the Directors and a real say in how the commercial practice develops
  • Growth: Join a business that is growing quickly, with genuine career progression and support to develop your skills as the team expands
  • Culture: A close-knit, no-ego team that backs each other, shares knowledge, and makes decisions quickly (and still finds time for a laugh)
  • Leaders who care: Managers who listen, invest in their people, and support you as an individual
  • Flexibility: Hybrid working from Sydney or Melbourne offices, with a real focus on work-life balance
