Job summary

Enemix is partnering with an Australian renewable energy platform to appoint a Head of Energy Markets & Operations. You will establish the operating capability of the business from day one, owning the full performance of the portfolio across availability, revenue and cost for solar, BESS and hybrid assets across Australia and New Zealand.

The role reports to the CEO and Executive team, working with Development, Energy Markets, Finance and Legal.

Qualifications

• Experience in technical asset management and Australian energy markets.
• Hands-on experience optimizing BESS or hybrid assets in merchant markets.
• Practical O&M experience on renewables/storage projects.

Job description

Enemix is partnering with a dedicated Australian and renewable energy platform to appoint a Head of Energy Markets & Operations. Our client develops, owns and operates utility-scale battery storage, solar and hybrid projects across the NEM.

This is a platform-building role. With the first projects reaching operations in 2027, you will establish the operating capability of the business from day one. You will own the full performance of the portfolio across availability, revenue and cost. That covers both technical asset management of the operating fleet and active market optimisation through bidding, dispatch and BESS trading strategy.

The business is deliberately lean, and this role sits at its centre. You will work directly with the CEO and Executive team and partner closely with Development, Energy Markets, Finance and Legal. It suits a senior, technically credible operator who wants broad ownership, real autonomy and a direct line of sight to the impact of their work.

Key Responsibilities

• Own the operational and commercial performance of a growing solar, BESS and hybrid portfolio across Australia and New Zealand, and report on it to the Executive team and shareholders
• Lead NEM dispatch, bidding and BESS optimisation strategy with the Energy Markets team to get the most from arbitrage, firming and ancillary services revenue
• Manage O&M contractors and service providers against availability, performance guarantee and HSE standards, and oversee maintenance, outages, warranty claims and fault resolution
• Build the data and analytics tools that guide trading and operating decisions, and use them to find underperformance, revenue leakage and ways to optimise
• Set up lean, scalable operating processes before the first assets come online, and bring the operational view to financing, due diligence and new acquisitions

Key Requirements

• Experience across technical asset management and Australian energy markets, with a strong working knowledge of NEM dispatch, settlement and FCAS
• Hands‑on experience optimising BESS and/or hybrid assets in a merchant market, including bidding, revenue strategy and merchant risk
• Practical O&M experience on renewable or storage projects, including performance guarantees, availability and warranty regimes, and technical fault diagnosis
• Strong data analytics skills: you are comfortable building or directing models and tools, not just reviewing them
• A blend of technical understanding and commercial acumen, plus the stakeholder skills and drive to succeed in a lean, fast‑paced environment
