Job summary

Waverley Council is seeking a Senior Communications Officer to deliver strategic and innovative communications across a broad portfolio of Council programs and priorities. You will develop integrated strategies, advise leaders, mentor staff and lead high-profile projects from planning through evaluation.

We offer a hybrid work model (3 office days per week), a salary range of $112,331.06–$129,180.70 plus 12% super, 9-day fortnights and discounted gym memberships.

Qualifications

  • At least five years' experience in communications, public relations, corporate affairs or stakeholder engagement.
  • Experience developing and delivering strategic communication plans and multi-channel campaigns.
  • Outstanding writing, storytelling and content development skills.
  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing abilities.
  • Local government experience is a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

We are rewriting the playbook on how local government interacts with the community. Moving away from traditional processes to build a modern, exciting and engaging communications function that is focused on participation.

On top of the amazing team and impact work, we are also offering:

  • Salary - $112,331.06 - $129,180.70 plus 12 % Super.
  • Permanent full time, hybrid working (3 office days per week)
  • Work your hours in 9 days and have the 10 th day off each fortnight

About the role

As Senior Communications Officer, you'll be a trusted communications advisor responsible for delivering strategic and innovative communications across a broad portfolio of Council programs, projects and priorities.

In this role, you will:

  • Develop and deliver integrated communications strategies and campaigns that drive awareness, understanding and community participation.
  • Provide strategic communications advice to leaders across the organisation.
  • Mentor and support Communications Officers, helping build capability and deliver best-practice communications outcomes.
  • Lead high-profile communications projects from planning through to delivery and evaluation.
  • Create compelling content across a range of channels, including media, digital, social, web, video, stakeholder communications and campaign materials.
A bit about you

We're seeking a communications professional who combines strategic thinking with exceptional execution.

You will bring:

  • Tertiary qualifications in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
  • At least five years' experience in communications, public relations, corporate affairs or stakeholder engagement.
  • Experience developing and delivering strategic communication plans and multi-channel campaigns.
  • Outstanding writing, storytelling and content development skills.
  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships at all levels.
