Job summary

Byrne Civil Group on the Central Coast is seeking a Senior Civil Estimator to join the work-winning team and lead tender development and submissions. The role focuses on accurate, competitive estimates across bulk earthworks, drainage, utilities and infrastructure projects within the Central Coast, Newcastle and Hunter regions.

You will review drawings, assess site risks, perform detailed quantity take-offs and drive procurement, risk management and tender strategy with directors.

Qualifications

• 5+ years' experience in civil estimating and tender leadership.
• Experience across bulk earthworks, drainage, utilities, roadworks and subdivisions.
• Ability to manage tenders from review to submission, negotiation and handover.

Byrne Civil Group is a growing Central Coast-based civil contractor delivering bulk earthworks, drainage, utilities and infrastructure projects across the Central Coast, Newcastle and Hunter areas. We are seeking an experienced Senior Civil Estimator to join our work-winning team and take a lead role in developing accurate, competitive and well-structured tenders.

Key responsibilities

• Review client documents (drawings, specs, geotech, contracts, digital design files), clarify scope and prepare tender clarifications and assumptions.
• Undertake site visits, assess access, staging, services, traffic and other risks, and capture findings in risk and tender documentation.
• Complete detailed quantity take-offs, build estimates at resource level using internal libraries and previous project data, and confirm mark-up with directors.
• Manage procurement for tenders, including maintaining the Procurement Register, issuing RFQs and evaluating subcontractor and supplier pricing.
• Develop and refine tender programs and methodology, including consideration of traffic and pedestrian management where required.
• Prepare professional tender submissions to client requirements and assist with post-submission follow up and successful handover to delivery teams.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of Byrne's estimating processes, cost libraries, systems and tendering practices.

Skills and experience

• 5+ years' experience in civil estimating, with demonstrated experience managing and leading competitive tenders.
• Strong background in civil construction, particularly bulk earthworks, drainage, utilities, roadworks and subdivisions.
• Proven ability to independently manage tenders from initial review through to submission, negotiation and handover.
• Strong understanding of civil construction methodologies, sequencing and constructability.
• Advanced ability to read and interpret civil drawings, models, specifications, contracts and geotechnical reports.
• Demonstrated experience in first-principles estimating, detailed quantity take-offs and resource-based pricing.
• Strong commercial acumen, including understanding of margins, procurement, contractual risk and project profitability.
• Proficiency with estimating software such as Benchmark Estimating, with strong Excel skills.
• Excellent negotiation, communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple tenders and competing deadlines.
• Relevant qualification in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline is desirable, or a strong industry background with extensive estimating experience.
• Current driver's licence and White Card.
• Willingness to attend project sites and client meetings as required.
