Job summary

GHD is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to join our Queensland Bridges team, ideally based in Cairns. You’ll lead analysis, design and documentation for bridges and civil structures across Queensland, delivering projects from concept to construction while mentoring junior engineers.

You’ll work with clients and multidisciplinary teams, coordinate delivery across scope, schedule and budgets, and help grow Cairns’ structural capability within a national network.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in Civil or Structural Engineering and chartered credentials preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of industry experience as a Structural Engineer.
• Membership/credentials with Engineers Australia or equivalent preferred.
• Demonstrated design and analysis experience across bridges or related infra.
• Experience delivering projects per Australian Standards and industry norms.
• Strong technical judgement for safe, practical solutions.
• Experience coordinating delivery including scope, budget and schedule.
• Clear communication with clients, contractors and multidisciplinary teams.
• Interest in mentoring engineers and contributing to a collaborative culture.

Responsibilities

• Lead and contribute to the analysis, design and documentation of bridges and other civil structures.
• Deliver projects from concept and detailed design through construction support and site activities.
• Work across a varied portfolio including road/rail bridges, marine infra and water-related structures.
• Undertake condition assessments and develop strengthening and asset-upgrade solutions.
• Coordinate structural inputs across multidisciplinary projects with clients and contractors.
• Manage technical quality, budgets, programmes and project risks.
• Build trusted client relationships and contribute to proposals and new opportunities.
• Provide guidance, technical review and mentoring to junior engineers and designers.
