Job summary

Vertex Search in Melbourne is seeking a Senior Originator to drive deal-making across Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) and Battery Storage (BESS) tolling contracts in the Australian energy market (NEM).

You will source, negotiate and manage end-to-end deals with corporates, utilities and storage providers, grow a robust pipeline, and collaborate with project development, finance, legal and trading teams to push opportunities forward in a fast-moving environment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in energy deal-making or related commercial role.
• Proven track record closing PPA deals with minimal oversight.
• Strong understanding of battery storage commercial structures and open-market exposure.

A well-established international energy developer is seeking a Senior Originator to drive deal-making across Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) and Battery Storage (BESS) Tolling Contracts throughout the Australian energy market (NEM). This is a high-impact commercial position that blends deal-sourcing, market insight and hands-on negotiation, covering both clean power generation and storage projects.

What You'll Be Doing

• Drive and close Corporate and Utility PPA deals across the Australian market
• Source, build and negotiate BESS trading agreements, optimisation arrangements and go-to-market frameworks
• Manage every stage of deal-making — from initial contact (confidentiality agreements, term sheets) through to signed contracts
• Grow and maintain a healthy pipeline of PPA and storage opportunities in line with the business's growth plans
• Cultivate high-level relationships across corporates, utility companies, energy retailers, trading desks, aggregators and storage optimisation firms
• Partner closely with teams across Project Development, Finance, Legal, Trading and Engineering to push deals forward
• Keep a close eye on the Australian energy landscape — price trends, regulation, ancillary markets
• Contribute to broader growth strategy, including combined renewables-plus-storage offerings

What We're Looking For

• 5+ years in energy deal-making, contract structuring, trading or a related commercial role
• Demonstrated success closing power agreement deals with minimal oversight
• Solid understanding of battery storage commercial structures — tolling deals, open-market exposure, optimisation approaches
• Strong working knowledge of the Australian electricity market (NEM) — price behaviour, volatility, and the regulatory landscape
• Sharp commercial instincts, with strong contract negotiation ability
• A well-built network across the industry (corporates, utilities, retailers, trading firms, storage providers) is highly valued
• Comfortable juggling several live deals at once in a fast-moving environment
• Strong analytical thinking and people-management skills
