The opportunity

Pryan is seeking an experienced Senior Azure Solution Architect to support a major Australian Government cloud modernisation initiative.

You will lead the design and development of the target-state architecture for the migration of a legacy document management platform to a secure, scalable, resilient and cloud-native Microsoft Azure Platform-as-a-Service environment.

This is a senior, delivery-focused architecture role. You will work closely with cloud engineers, security architects, developers, business stakeholders, project personnel and delivery partners to translate business, technical, security and operational requirements into practical, implementation-ready designs.

The role requires broad architecture capability across application, integration, data, identity, networking, platform and security domains.

Key responsibilities

You will:

  • Lead the development and governance of the target-state Azure architecture, ensuring alignment with business requirements, Azure best practices and Australian Government standards.
  • Design end-to-end Azure solutions across application, data, integration, networking, identity, platform and security domains.
  • Provide technical leadership on legacy application migration, application modernisation and cloud-native design approaches.
  • Design and govern Azure landing zones, identity architectures, networking patterns, governance frameworks and security controls.
  • Develop solution architecture documents, technical designs, integration specifications, architecture decision records and implementation artefacts.
  • Support Infrastructure-as-Code, automation, CI/CD, DevSecOps and Azure DevOps deployment pipelines.
  • Participate in architecture governance, technical design reviews, security accreditation, delivery assurance and operational-readiness activities.
  • Identify and manage architectural risks, dependencies, technical debt and significant design decisions.
  • Support disaster recovery, business continuity, IRAP assessment, security remediation and Authority to Operate activities.
  • Provide mentoring, technical guidance and knowledge transfer to project teams and Australian Public Service personnel.
Skills and experience

To be successful, you will have:

  • At least five years’ experience in solution architecture, cloud architecture or a closely related senior architecture role.
  • Demonstrated experience leading the design and delivery of complex Azure cloud-transformation or application-modernisation initiatives.
  • Strong experience with Azure PaaS services and cloud-native application architecture.
  • Experience designing across application, data, integration, networking, identity and security domains.
  • Practical knowledge of Azure landing zones, Microsoft Entra ID, secure networking, governance and cloud security controls.
  • Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code using technologies such as Terraform, Bicep or equivalent.
  • Strong knowledge of Azure DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, automation and DevSecOps practices.
  • An understanding of Australian Government security, risk and assurance frameworks, including the ISM and PSPF.
  • Experience producing high-quality architecture documentation and presenting complex technical decisions to senior stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication and stakeholder-management skills.
Highly regarded experience
  • Australian Government or other secure and regulated environments.
  • Whole-of-Government applications and shared platforms.
  • IRAP assessments, remediation of security findings and Authority to Operate processes.
  • Disaster recovery, business continuity and operational transition.
  • Windows Server and SQL Server.
  • SharePoint.
  • .NET Framework and Angular.
  • Internet Information Services.
  • Active Directory Federation Services.
  • Mentoring or leading architects, engineers or other technical personnel.
  • A current Australian Government NV1 or NV2 security clearance.
