Job summary

HDR is seeking an Associate or Senior Associate Structural Engineer in Melbourne to lead major structural projects within the National Building Structures Team. You will guide design, provide technical leadership, and mentor engineers while strengthening client relationships and contributing to national growth.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status, or equivalent registration.
• Significant experience in a consulting structural engineering environment.
• Strong track record delivering structural design for complex building projects across all phases.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary project teams and coordinating stakeholders.
• Knowledge of NCC and Australian Standards (AS 1170, AS 3600, AS 4100, AS 3700, AS 2870).
• Experience with site inspections, construction phase services, and technical reporting.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and delivery of major structural projects across building sectors.
• Provide technical leadership, design oversight, and QA throughout all phases.
• Support Melbourne and national practice growth, client engagement and capability development.
• Develop practical, buildable structural solutions meeting regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate with architects, MEP engineers, and project stakeholders.
• Resolve complex technical and construction challenges while maintaining design intent.
• Build and maintain client and contractor relationships.
• Support business development: proposals, fee submissions, and client engagement.
• Mentor engineers and designers to grow the Melbourne structural practice.
• Take on Project Leader responsibilities including delivery, coordination, and budgeting.
