Job summary

WSP Adelaide seeks an Associate Engineer with extensive structural engineering experience to join our Buildings Structures group. You will work on Defence and other major projects, leading design, delivery, and tender phases while growing client relationships and contributing to business development.

The role emphasizes technical excellence, leadership, and the ability to mentor engineers within a national, collaborative team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor to Masters’ level degree in Civil/Structural Engineering.
• Minimum 10+ years of structural engineering consultancy experience in Australia within the commercial Property & Buildings market is essential.
• Chartered (CPEng) status, with relevant Australian registration.
• Eligibility to obtain Australian Defence full security clearance is essential – only eligible to Australian Citizens (Permanent Resident, NZ Citizens & Visa holders are not eligible).
• Exposure across a range of local building sectors, e.g., transport, health, retail, defence;
• Strong technical capability in the design and delivery of building projects, supported by advanced knowledge of structural analysis and design software.
• Proven experience leading complex multidisciplinary projects, including responsibility for scope, program, resources, risk, quality, and project financial performance.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain client relationships, identify opportunities, and generate repeat business.
• Experience preparing and leading proposals, pursuits, and business development activities.
• Strong leadership skills, including mentoring and developing engineers, managing project teams, and contributing to team growth.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and commercial acumen.

Responsibilities

• Ensure timely and quality of delivery for project and structural engineering work in alignment with standards, schedules and budgets.
• Work on iconic projects within a multi‑disciplinary engineering team to deliver a range of engineering projects.
• Lead design, delivery and tender phases for multi‑year/packaged turnkey projects.
• Support wider teams nationally when opportunities present.
• Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders and foster a team-based approach.
• Contribute to continuous improvement and more efficient workflows.
• Maintain ongoing relationships with local clients.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders and a national multidisciplinary team.
