Job summary

AEMO is transforming Australia’s energy system as the independent market operator and system planner. A Senior Analyst in the Operational Forecasting team will lead models for electricity demand, rooftop PV and variable renewables, while mentoring analysts and coordinating with control rooms across the NEM and WEM.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in science, engineering, mathematics, meteorology, or related statistical discipline.
• Proven forecasting, operation, analytical, or market-related experience.
• Ability to lead, support, and mentor others across multiple projects.
• Ability to operate in high-pressure environments with evolving technical challenges.
• Experience presenting reports to stakeholders and communicating technical information.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead development, implementation and improvement of forecasting models for electricity demand, rooftop PV and variable renewable generation.
• Mentor analysts, graduates and interns and support team priorities.
• Develop and improve short-term forecasts for electricity demand, rooftop PV and variable renewable generation.
• Collaborate with control rooms to translate weather risks into system impacts.
• Contribute energy and weather insights into advisories, incident reviews, and market reports.
• Coordinate across teams to align tools and forecasting processes between NEM and WEM.
