Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) in Australia seeks a Principal Analyst to lead large-scale market modelling and forecasting for long-term transmission planning and policy support.

You will develop innovative methodologies, guide best practices, and translate complex insights into clear recommendations for stakeholders across the energy sector. AEMO values collaboration, continuous improvement, and technical leadership.

Qualifications

• Tertiary and/or postgraduate qualifications in a relevant discipline with extensive experience in electricity market modelling or power system planning.
• Advanced PLEXOS experience is essential, with exposure to Databricks, Python and/or R highly regarded.
• Strong technical expertise with experience developing, validating and troubleshooting complex analytical models.
• Demonstrated experience leading or contributing to robust quality assurance processes and technical reviews.
• Experience preparing technical reports, publications or industry-facing analysis for stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead complex market modelling, forecasting and power system planning studies informing investment and policy decisions.
• Act as a technical authority for modelling quality assurance and defensible analytical outcomes.
• Troubleshoot and continuously improve electricity market models and frameworks.
• Identify process gaps and risks, recommending improvements for efficiency and capability.
• Deliver high-quality technical reports, publications and presentations for stakeholders.
• Mentor analysts through technical coaching and peer reviews.
• Build strong collaborative relationships across AEMO and the broader industry.
