Job summary

The Queensland Government is seeking a Section Supervisor to lead Youth Workers in detention, coordinating activities and supervising intervention strategies identified in residents' Single Case Plans.

Job description

The role of the Section Supervisor is to develop, coordinate, monitor and supervise activities of Youth Workers in the delivery of services to young people in detention, and monitor at a unit level the implementation and delivery of the intervention strategies identified in resident young people's Single Case Plan.

Key Responsibilities

As Section Supervisor, you will specifically:

• Demonstrate cultural capability and/or a commitment to developing cultural capability to ensure an inclusive culture that aligns with the Human Rights Act 2019 and supports departmental programs and community partnerships aimed at preserving cultural connections for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
• Implement, maintain, and assist in the development of, procedures for the supervision and direct care of young people in detention that provide for a secure, safe and positive environment for young people. Oversee the provision of quality interaction between staff and young people in the unit. Ensure high standards of cleanliness, safety and security are maintained within the unit.
• As part of a multi-disciplinary team, monitor young people's progress in addressing their case needs as identified in their Single Case Plan by maximising opportunities for them to attend programs and other activities, by role modelling appropriate behaviour, overseeing the implementation of the behaviour development system and ensuring it is applied in a fair and equitable manner, by monitoring their daily behaviours, and by assisting young people in developing and progressing their rehabilitative and reintegrative processes and strategies.
• Provide relevant and timely feedback in the supervision and performance monitoring of Youth Workers to inform on the job mentoring as well as contributing to individual performance assessments conducted by the Unit Manager and relevant Shift Supervisor.
• Ensure consistent unit operations through the development of information sharing and teamwork development strategies.
• Prepare reports and records in an accurate and timely manner using both manual and computerised systems.
• Assist in the development and testing of contingency plans and procedures to ensure that the centre's response to incidents is timely, effective and appropriate.
• Liaise with Shift Supervisors and Unit Managers to assist the development and oversee the implementation of effective young person management practices and the delivery of a range of client-related services.

Delegations

This role holds statutory delegations under the Youth Justice Act 1992. This position is also subject to financial delegation responsibilities.
