Job summary

Nelson Bay Fish Market is seeking a Seafood Retail & Preparation Team Member for a part-time role. Working closely with the fish cutter, sales team and management, you will help ensure seafood displays are beautifully presented, fully stocked and ready for customers throughout the day.

This hands-on position combines seafood preparation, shopfront presentation, stock management and customer service, with a focus on freshness, presentation and safe handling in a friendly team environment.

Qualifications

• Passionate about fresh, high-quality seafood and produce.
• Experience in seafood handling or similar fresh-food environment is preferred.
• Comfortable working with knives and seafood preparation equipment.
• Ability to present displays neatly and maintain cleanliness.

Responsibilities

• Setting up and maintaining seafood displays to a high standard.
• Cutting and portioning fish for retail sale and display.
• Scaling and cleaning whole fish when required.
• Preparing sashimi for the front window.
• Ensuring sufficient prepared seafood is available for the sales team throughout the day.
• Monitoring stock levels and ordering packaging supplies.

Seafood Retail & Preparation Team Member - Part-Time

Working closely with the fish cutter, sales team and management, you will help ensure seafood displays are beautifully presented, fully stocked and ready for customers throughout the day. This is a varied, hands-on role combining seafood preparation, shopfront presentation, stock management and customer service.

Key responsibilities

• Setting up and maintaining seafood displays to a high standard
• Cutting and portioning fish for retail sale and display
• Scaling and cleaning whole fish when required
• Preparing sashimi for the front window
• Ensuring sufficient prepared seafood is available for the sales team throughout the day
• Monitoring stock levels, including fish, lobsters, mud crabs and other seafood
• Rotating stock and maintaining excellent product quality and freshness
• Preparing seafood raffle trays for local clubs and customers
• Preparing scheduled orders for retirement homes, caravan parks and other account customers
• Monitoring and ordering packaging supplies

About you

• Passionate about fresh, high-quality seafood and produce
• Friendly, approachable and confident interacting with customers
• Enthusiastic and willing to get involved wherever needed
• Experienced in seafood handling, fish preparation or a similar fresh-food environment
• Confident with fish cutting, portioning, scaling and cleaning, or willing and able to develop these skills
• Particular about presentation and maintaining a clean, attractive shopfront
• Organised and able to manage multiple priorities
• Comfortable working with knives and seafood preparation equipment
• Knowledgeable about food safety, hygiene and safe handling practices
• Hold a valid Australian visa with unrestricted working rights
