Job summary

Dandenong High School is seeking a dedicated Maintenance Officer to support the wellbeing and safety of the school community by keeping facilities and grounds in top condition. You will join a Maintenance Team responsible for scheduled tasks, gardening programs and rapid responses to maintenance needs.

Applicants will bring proven teamwork, strong organisational skills and a working knowledge of OH&S practices, with ability to follow directions and work independently as required in a busy school

Qualifications

• Demonstrated ability to proactively undertake a range of maintenance duties including some trade experience relevant to the role.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a range of people in a working environment.
• Proven ability to use highly developed organisational skills to investigate, prioritise, take appropriate action and address maintenance issues as they may arise.
• Demonstrated capacity to work effectively as a member of a team, to follow instructions and take on responsibility to work independently without direct supervision.
• Demonstrated knowledge and awareness of Occupational Health and Safety guidelines and practices

Responsibilities

• Work as a member of the Maintenance Team to ensure facilities and grounds are maintained to a high standard
• Develop, implement and monitor a planting and garden maintenance schedule
• Evaluate and select equipment, materials and plants and make recommendations to senior management
• Coordinate the purchase of equipment and materials
• Respond to maintenance tasks as they are assigned by the Facilities Manager
• Comply with scheduled inspections (tree audit, facility audit, asbestos, mechanical equipment)
• Ensure storage areas are clean, safe and orderly
• Assist with setup of school exams in the gymnasium per yearly program
• Manage procedures for maintenance and care of gardening equipment
• Assist with security of equipment and buildings
• Ensure work complies with OH&S guidelines
• Undertake other duties as directed by the Principal or Facilities Manager
