Job summary

Dandenong High School, part of the Department of Education Victoria, is seeking an Education Support – Maintenance role to care for grounds and facilities and support safety within the school community.

The role involves scheduled maintenance, responding to tasks, and working under the Facilities Manager to ensure high standards of safety, cleanliness and functionality across school facilities and grounds.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated ability to proactively undertake a range of maintenance duties including some trade experience relevant to the role
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a range of people in a working environment
• Proven ability to use highly developed organisational skills to investigate, prioritise, take appropriate action and address maintenance issues as they may arise
• Demonstrated capacity to work effectively as a member of a team, to follow instructions and take on responsibility to work independently without direct supervision
• Demonstrated knowledge and awareness of Occupational Health and Safety guidelines and practices

Responsibilities

• Work as a member of the Maintenance Team to ensure the facilities and grounds are maintained to a high standard
• Develop, implement and monitor a planting and garden maintenance schedule
• Evaluate and select equipment, materials and plants and make recommendations to senior management.
• Coordinate the purchase of equipment and materials
• Respond to maintenance tasks as they are assigned by the Facilities Manager
• Comply with requirements of scheduled inspections (tree audit, facility audit, asbestos, mechanical equipment)
• Ensure storage areas are in a clean, safe and orderly condition
• Assisting with setup of school exams held in the gymnasium as per yearly program
• Manage procedures relating to the maintenance and care of gardening equipment
• Assist with the security of equipment and buildings
• Ensure work complies with Occupational Health and Safety guidelines and practices
• Undertake any other duties as directed by the Principal or Facilities Manager
