Job summary

ALS Limited in Orange, NSW, is seeking multiple casual Sample Preparers to join a fast-paced geochemistry lab environment. You will prepare samples for testing, operate crushing and pulverizing equipment, and ensure accurate labeling and tracking in the Gems system.

Role requires physical fitness, reliability, and the ability to work full-time on rotating rosters. Full training is provided, with opportunities for multi-skilling within the department.

Qualifications

• Must be available to work full time hours and full rotating rosters.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Be reliable, physically fit and prepared to carry out repetitive manual handling tasks.
• This is a residential role in Orange NSW with current Australian work rights.

Responsibilities

• Operate sample preparation equipment as per procedures (QWIs).
• Sort received samples and note discrepancies on the sorting sheet.
• Apply barcode labels to samples and capture weights in the Gems interface.
• Transfer scanned samples to drying racks and prepare for drying.
• Crush, riffle, split and sieve samples to meet end-product specs.
• Operate pulverizing mills to achieve required end-product specification.
• Inform supervisor of any issues (e.g., wet samples, machinery breakdowns).
• Maintain machinery and clean work areas as directed.

The role

We are currently seeking multiple individuals to join our teams at our Geochemistry site in Orange.

We are looking for dedicated Sample Preparers to work in a fast-paced environment, supporting our many mining and exploration clients.

Sample Preparers are responsible for the preparation of samples for testing to identify chemical composition.

As a Sample Preparer, you will be working in a warehouse operating machinery to crush, split, and pulverize mineral samples for laboratory analysis. Please note that this is a physically demanding role in a dusty work environment, so previous production experience and flexibility with availability would be highly advantageous.

The role also involves working in a dusty environment where wearing a half-face respirator is mandatory and to ensure a proper seal, you must be clean-shaven.

This is a Casual role, and you MUST be able to work the following roster:

• Monday to Friday from 6:00 am to 2 pm
• Monday to Friday from 1:30 pm to 9:30 pm

There are opportunities for multi-skilling within the department, including progression towards more complex roles in sample preparation and administration.

Full training is provided.

The day to day

• Operate various sample preparation equipment in accordance with procedures outlined in the relevant QWIs
• Sort received samples as per the client's submission form, noting any discrepancies on the sample sorting sheet
• Apply barcode labels to sorted samples and capture received sample weights in the Gems interface
• Transfer scanned samples to drying racks
• Crush, riffle, split, and sieve samples as directed prior to drying them at the specified temperature
• Operate pulverizing mills to achieve the required end-product specification
• Promptly inform the supervisor of any issues (e.g., excessively wet samples, machinery breakdowns, etc.)
• Maintain machinery and equipment as directed
• Ensure work areas are kept clean and tidy

This is a residential role, and you must be residing in or planning to relocate to Orange - NSW with current Australian work rights to be considered.
