Job summary

Manuka Resources Limited is seeking a Safety, Training and Emergency Response Officer to oversee safety programs, training development and emergency response at the Wonawinta project site. The role supports incident investigations, risk assessments and toolbox talks while ensuring compliance across underground and surface operations.

The successful candidate will be practical, calm under pressure and capable in a mining environment, with relevant WHS qualifications and experience in emergency

Job description

Safety, Training and Emergency Response Officer

Manuka Resources Limitedis an ASX listed resources company involved in exploration, mine development and mine operations. The Company has gold and silver assets in the Cobar Basin in central west New South Wales-including the Wonawinta and Mt Boppy mines, together with a large vanadium rich iron sands project in New Zealand.

The Company is strongly committed to near mine and regional exploration and already have identified future open cut deposits to be developed and is currently undertaking work associated with developing underground operations at Mt Boppy- which historically has been one of NSW’s richest gold mines.

The Wonawinta Silver Project is located approximately 100 kilometres south of Cobar and the Company is scheduling for processing operations to commence by mid-2026. This provides for a 5–6-month program to refurbish and upgrade the existing Wonawinta processing plant. The upgrade includes adding a front end deslime and dewatering circuit to increase mill throughput and improve overall leaching performance whilst the refurbishment is focused on achieving operational readiness of the existing ball milling, leaching, absorption and elution circuits. The processing plant will process in excess of 1.2 mtpa and at this time has a minimum 10 year mine life.

For the first two years of operations the Company will be transporting around 13,000 tonnes per month of gold ore from rock dumps and stockpiles from the Mt Boppy Gold Project, to blend in with the silver ore being mined from the Wonawinta open cut pits.

The sites total workforce will be in excess of 150 personnel made up of company employees and contractors. Employees work at Wonawinta on a drive in/drive out basis. The site has a well-established and comfortable camp at the site.

Safety, Training and Emergency Response Officer

Reporting to the Health, Safety, Environment & Community Manager, this position plays a key role in the operation’s safety, training and emergency response programs to ensure that we have a safe and compliant operation. Your main responsibilities will include the following:

Safety

Supporting incident reporting and investigations to assist supervisors to identify contributing factors and implement effective corrective and preventative actions.

Reviewing, maintaining and continuously improving the safety management system including procedures, risk assessments and training materials.

Conducting regular site inspections, safety audits, plant and equipment checks and task observations to verify compliance and identify opportunities for improvement.

Facilitating site inductions for employees, contractors and visitors.

Facilitating and participating in toolbox meetings.

Completing health and safety reporting and any associated administrative tasks.

Training

Developing, delivering and assessing training packages for underground and surface operations.

Managing statutory training compliance in line with NSW WHS (Mines & Petroleum Sites) legislation.

Maintaining accurate training records and reporting within the operations training management systems.

Auditing training documentation, authorisations, and competencies to ensure quality and continuous improvement.

Liaising with supervisors, managers and new starters regarding onboarding and mandatory training requirements.

Supporting projects related to training, capability uplift, process improvement and systems development.

Emergency Response

Maintaining safety, emergency and first aid equipment.

Assessing risks and implement effective emergency response measures and procedures.

Delivering first aid and pre-hospital care.

Assisting in the training and development of the Emergency response Team.

We require:
An individual who is practical, calm under pressure and credible in an operational mining environment and brings to the site a strong emergency response capability alongside sound safety advisory experience. Ideally the appointee will have:

Certificate IV in Work Health & Safety

Certificate III in Mine Emergency Response and Rescue

Advanced First Aid qualification

Certificate IV in Training & Assessment

Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in safety advisory roles within mining, resources or heavy industry

Experience operating or supporting emergency response equipment and systems
