Job Description
Redpath Mining | Appin, NSW | 15/13 Roster | Full-Time Permanent

The Redpath Group is a leading mining contractor with projects across the globe. We specialise in shaft sinking, mine development, contract mining, raise boring, underground construction, engineering and technical services, and specialty services in the mining and construction sectors.

At Redpath, our people are at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to a culture built on safety, respect, integrity and continuous improvement, and we invest in our people through ongoing training, support and career development.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the HSE Manager, the Safety Training Advisor is a site-based role on the AVMA Shaft Project at Appin, combining hands-on safety advice and field presence with responsibility for the site safety training and competency program.

The role is an even split between the two. You will spend your time in the field alongside the crews providing safety advice, completing inspections and supporting incident investigation, and in the training room and shaft delivering and assessing the competencies that keep people safe.

This position is ideally suited to an underground or shaft mining safety training professional who is equally comfortable holding a safety conversation in the shaft and conducting a competency assessment under the same engagement.

Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
Safety
  • Provide practical safety advice and guidance to supervisors, crews and contractors across surface and shaft operations.
  • Complete workplace inspections, safety observations and field leadership activities, and close out the actions arising.
  • Contribute to risk assessments, JSA reviews and pre-start hazard identification.
  • Investigate incidents and hazard reports, identify causal factors and verify corrective actions are implemented.
  • Lead toolbox talks, safety briefings and site safety initiatives that build workforce engagement.
  • Work with site health and safety representatives (SHSRs) to support consultation, workforce engagement and resolution of safety issues.
  • Apply the site Safety Management System, including principal hazard management plans and site procedures, across day-to-day operations.
  • Participate in internal, client and regulatory audits, inspections and assurance activities.
Training and Competency
  • Develop safety training material, assessment instruments and practical assessment tools aligned to site procedures and safe work methods.
  • Deliver theory and practical training, including in the shaft environment on the stage and at working levels, as required.
  • Assess and record verification of competency for shaft, plant and high-risk activities, including reassessment at required intervals.
  • Review and update the site Training Needs Analysis and training matrix as work scopes change.
  • Administer training and competency records in the site learning management system, including currency of statutory tickets and licences.
  • Coordinate client induction requirements, including site-specific inductions and workforce onboarding.
  • Verify competency and training compliance for contractors and subcontractors prior to commencing work on site.
  • Liaise with Registered Training Organisations and assist with NSW coal mining licensing and compliance requirements.
  • Partner with the Redpath corporate training and governance team to align site programs, records and reporting with company standards.
