Job summary

Laing O'Rourke in Sydney, NSW, seeks a Safety Assurance Engineer to lead safety assurance on the Transport for Tomorrow project. You will manage SA activities and provide expert safety advice to the project team and Safety Assurance Manager, supporting a tier-1 construction and international engineering enterprise.

With 5+ years of experience and a degree in Engineering or Science, you will be chartered and proficient in risk-based safety assurance and industry standards for rail infrastructure.

Qualifications

• Five years' experience in safety assurance or a similar role.
• Degree-qualified in Engineering or Science.
• Chartered with a recognised professional institution.
• Knowledge of legislation, standards and guidance for rail safety management.
• Knowledge of verification and validation techniques.

Responsibilities

• Resolve complex issues pertaining to safety and risk across multiple projects.
• Undertake Safety Assurance (SA) analysis for the design, including Hazard Identification (HAZID), safety controls, actions and produce/review the related safety documentation.
• Establish that safety requirements are included in the design and communicated to relevant construction/commissioning parties.
• Develop Safety Assurance Statements and Safety Assurance Reports.
• Develop/update and ensure Laing O'Rourke Systems Assurance Plan implementation.
• Review key project processes, documentation and assurance evidence to ensure quality and alignment with verification/validation strategy across the project lifecycle.
• Act as point of contact for SA activities with internal and external stakeholders.
• Conduct/support SA audits on subcontractors and partners; support internal and external audits involving SA matters.

About the role

We are currently seeking a Safety Assurance Engineer for our Transport for Tomorrow project based in Sydney.

The purpose of this role is to manage project safety assurance activities and provide safety assurance advice and support to both the project and the Safety Assurance Manager.

About you

• Minimum of five years' experience.
• Degree qualified in Engineering or Science.
• Professionally chartered with a recognised professional institution.
• Knowledge of risk‐based safety assurance.
• Knowledge of legislation, standards and guidance, processes and practices related to safety management for rail infrastructure projects.
• Knowledge of verification and validation techniques.
