Job summary

Ventia is seeking an experienced Safety Advisor to partner with field teams across Victorian road maintenance operations, driving a positive safety culture and continuous improvement on critical infrastructure works.

Reporting to the SHEQ Manager, the role blends field engagement, risk management, audits and reporting, with the aim of influencing safe behaviours and supporting incident investigations.

Qualifications

• Experience in a Safety Advisor/SHEQ role within civil construction or infrastructure.
• Ability to assess risks, conduct audits and investigations.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• Desirable documentation of WHS qualifications.

Responsibilities

Help shape the safety culture on one of Victoria's most significant road maintenance contracts.

Ventia has been awarded the Victorian Road Maintenance Contract (VRMC) by Transport for Victoria, delivering essential maintenance and operational services across Victoria's road network.

We're seeking an experienced Safety Advisor to partner with operational teams and leaders across our Road Maintenance operations. This is an opportunity to play a key role in influencing safe behaviours, supporting frontline teams, and driving continuous improvement across critical infrastructure works that keep Victorian communities connected.

About the Role

Reporting to the SHEQ Manager, you'll provide expert safety advice, guidance and support to operational teams delivering road maintenance and construction activities.

Working closely with leaders and frontline employees, you'll help embed a positive safety culture, ensure compliance with safety requirements, and identify opportunities to continuously improve safety performance.

This is a hands-on role that combines field engagement, coaching, risk management, auditing and reporting.

Key Responsibilities

• Partner with operational teams to promote safe work practices and positive safety behaviours
• Provide practical health and safety advice across maintenance and construction activities
• Conduct site inspections, audits and safety observations
• Identify hazards, risks and opportunities for improvement
• Support the implementation of Ventia's SHEQ systems, programs and procedures
• Assist with incident investigations and corrective actions
• Deliver safety communications, toolbox talks and awareness initiatives
• Monitor compliance with legislative, contractual and company requirements
• Analyse trends and provide meaningful safety performance reporting
• Contribute to a culture where safety remains a core value and operational priority

About You

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

• Previous experience in a Safety Advisor, Safety Coordinator or SHEQ position
• Experience working within civil construction, infrastructure, roads, transport, utilities or a similar environment
• Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation and risk management practices
• Experience conducting audits, inspections and incident investigations
• The ability to build trust and influence stakeholders at all levels
• Strong communication, coaching and relationship-building skills
• A proactive approach to identifying and solving safety challenges
• Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety or equivalent (desirable)
