Job summary

Banana Shire Council is inviting applications for a Roller Operator to support maintenance and construction projects across the Shire. You will operate heavy plant including rollers, perform routine servicing, read basic plans, manage traffic control, and liaise with work crews and the public to keep projects on track and safe.

Qualifications

• QLD Class C manual driver licence is required.
• White Card/Safety Induction is required.
• Other Plant Operator Tickets are required.
• Traffic Management Plan Competency is required.
• Traffic Controller Competency is required.

Responsibilities

• Operate a roller to required standards on maintenance and construction projects.
• Provide high quality plant operation services to work teams at various locations.
• Maintain and service plant and equipment per operating procedures.
• Maintain a daily diary of plant movements.
• Read and interpret basic plans and instructions.
• Undertake traffic control and implement traffic control plans.
• Report identified weeds and issues to supervisors.
• Respond to internal and external customer requests as required.
• Participate in toolbox and team meetings.
• Promote the image of the Council and maintain good public relations.
• Liaise with clients, Council staff, the public and authorities.
• Undertake routine administrative tasks (e.g., timesheets).
• Assist senior staff to improve work processes and develop new practices.

Banana Shire is situated in Central Queensland, Australia located 120 km west of the growing industrial city and port of Gladstone - and an easy drive to the city of Rockhampton.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Efficient and effective operation of a roller to the required standard
• Provide high quality plant operation services to the work teams at various locations within and outside of the Shire
• Maintain and service plant and equipment, in accordance with operating procedures
• Maintain a daily diary of plant movements as required
• Read and interpret basic plans and instructions
• Undertake traffic control and implement traffic control plans as required
• Report identified weeds
• Respond to internal and external customer request as required
• Participate in toolbox and team meetings
• Contribute to the promotion of the image of the Council and the maximisation of good public relations
• Liaise with clients, other Council staff, the public, consultants, utility and government authorities
• Undertake routine administrative tasks as required by the position e.g. timesheets
• Assist senior staff to continuously improve work processes and develop new practices as required
• Participate in training, exercises and response to disaster management and recovery as required
• Undertake other relevant duties as directed, consistent with skills, competence and training.

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION AND LICENCE REQUIREMENTS

Compulsory

• Queensland class ‘C’ manual driver licence
• Queensland General Safety Induction, Whye Card (formerly known as a Blue Card)
• Other Plant Operator Tickets
• Traffic Management Implementation Plan Competency
• Traffic Controller Competency

ABILITIES, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

Compulsory

• Demonstrated experience in the effective operation of heavy vehicles within a construction and maintenance infrastructure environment together with knowledge of road construction and maintenance techniques
• Basic literacy, numeracy and communication skills
• Sound understanding of and commitment to EEO and WHS principles and practices
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment under minimal supervision
