Job summary

Inner West Council in Sydney seeks a Roadworks Approvals Officer / Engineer to oversee road, footpath, cycling and stormwater access, manage permits, and ensure compliance with standards and legislation. The role combines technical assessment with stakeholder engagement.

Qualifications

• Ter tiary qualifications in an appropriate discipline.
• Experience in managing third-party access to municipal infrastructure.
• Knowledge of Roads Act and related legislation for road reserves and public lands.
• Understanding of road infrastructure technical standards.
• Strong interpersonal and written/oral communication and negotiation skills.
• Ability to represent Council to external organisations and the public.
• Current NSW Class C Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

• Assess and manage road occupancy, openings and restorations.
• Provide expert advice to customers and stakeholders.
• Monitor compliance and coordinate outcomes minimising public asset impact.
• Contribute to policy development and continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with developers, contractors, and internal teams.
