Job description

A major Victorian public health service is looking for an experienced Revenue Manager to lead its patient billing and collections function. This is a permanent leadership role with real influence over the revenue a large tertiary hospital earns from private, compensable and Medicare billing.

The Role

You'll own the full patient revenue cycle:

  • Election: working out whether a patient can be treated as private or compensable.
  • Billing: charging Medicare, health funds, the TAC, WorkSafe and patients.
  • Receipting: taking in and banking payments.
  • Debt management: following up and reducing what's still owed.

You'll lead two team leaders and around 10 staff across the Private Patient Liaison and Patient Accounts teams. You'll also oversee billing done in clinical areas outside Finance.

Day to day, you'll:
  • Reduce aged debt and debtor days.
  • Manage MBS changes and keep fee schedules current.
  • Own billing business rules and system changes.
  • Work with clinical directors and operational leaders to find revenue that would otherwise be missed.
What We're Looking For

Must-haves:

  • Experience leading a billing and collections team in a hospital or multi-service health environment, public or private
  • Hands-on knowledge of MBS, health fund and compensable (TAC, WorkSafe) billing
  • Experience managing a high-volume transactional team through team leaders
  • Ownership of aged debt, debtor days and month-end reconciliations
  • Understanding of Department of Health funding, NHRA and government reporting
  • Tertiary qualification in commerce, business, finance or similar
Nice-to-haves:
  • TrakCare, PBRC or similar patient administration and billing systems
  • Victorian public health experience
  • Rights of private practice or private patient election experience
  • Billing system upgrades or collection agency tenders delivered
The Environment

You'll join a finance leadership team that is investing in systems and process improvement, following the recent implementation of a new finance system. The health service is expanding virtual care and Hospital in the Home, so this role will help shape how new models of care are billed.
