Job summary

Port Macquarie-Hastings Council is offering a full-time four-year Mechanical Fitter Apprentice program at Port Macquarie NSW.

The role provides paid study time to achieve the Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade (Fitting/Machining) at Taree TAFE, with hands-on experience maintaining water and wastewater infrastructure.

Qualifications

  • Interest in completing Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade (Fitting/Machining).
  • Willing to commit to a four-year apprenticeship with paid study time.
  • Australian/NZ citizen or Australian Permanent Resident; no visa support.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain major water and wastewater infrastructure, plants, pumps and pipelines.
  • Collaborate with electrical, instrumentation and automation trades.
  • Work on safety-conscious, on-site maintenance with PPE compliance.

Aboutthe Opportunity

To help us achieve this we are seeking applications from enthusiastic and proactive individuals wishing to commence a career as a Mechanical Fitter Apprentice. This full-time, four-yearapprenticeship offers hands‑on experience maintaining essential water and wastewater infrastructure, with paid study time to complete your Certificate III in Engineering –Mechanical Trade (Fitting/Machining) at Taree TAFE.

As part of ourteam, you’ll gain practical skills working on:

  • Major water and wastewater infrastructure
  • Treatment plants and pump stations
  • Dams, reservoirs, and pipeline systems
  • Valves, actuators, and hydraulic components
  • Community assets including airports, sportingfields, event centres, pools, buildings, waste management and emergency services facilities.
  • Chemical dosing equipment and mechanicalinstallations

You’ll also gainvaluable exposure and experience working with other trades across electrical, instrumentation, data communications and automation systems, broadening your skill set and future opportunities.

We are looking for individuals who are:
  • Willing to learn on thejob and ask questions
  • Interested inmaintaining and improving community facilities
  • Team players with strongcommunication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Safety-conscious,committed to working safely for yourself and others
  • Able to commit to studyrequirements and complete training in a timely and organised way
  • Hold a current Driver'sLicense (Red P’s or more)
  • Hold a current general construction induction card (white card) or ability to obtain prior to commencement.
  • Able to comply withuniform and PPE requirements, including while at TAFE

Remuneration and Benefits:

Employment type: Full-time, four-yearapprenticeship with paid study time (38 hours per week with a 9-day fortnight)

Salary (exclusive of super): Starting from $865.85 to $1043.99 per week depending on school level obtained and experience
