Job summary

Macquarie University invites applications for an Academic Data Scientist in the Neurosciences program within the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Human Sciences. The role focuses on turning complex research data into insights that advance brain health, genomic, proteomic, transcriptomic, and imaging datasets.

Reporting to Professor Glenda Halliday, you will build data pipelines, develop tools, train researchers, and contribute to publications while ensuring data governance under ethics approvals.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in a data science related field with research experience.
• Secure data handling knowledge and data sensitivity awareness.
• Programming in Python and R with Jupyter Notebook experience.
• Version control with Git/GitLab/GitHub and workflow languages.
• Experience with data processing environments and ML (Torch/PyTorch).
• Ability to document tools, scripts and analyses for researchers.
• Familiarity with HPC and containerised workflows (desirable).

Responsibilities

• Collect, generate and organise source research data into repositories.
• Analyse data with existing tools and develop new analytic pipelines.
• Visualise data using specialised bioinformatics tools.
• Configure data processing platforms with partners, using containers.
• Train and support researchers to access tools and capabilities.
• Contribute to publications, format data, and share code publicly.
• Work within ethics approvals and data privacy policies.
