Synergie Australia is recruiting a Senior Project Accountant for a renewable energy corporate project portfolio in St Leonards, NSW. The role requires hands-on accounting across project lifecycles with strong controls and stakeholder collaboration to deliver clear performance insights.

You will manage set-up, revenue, costs, accruals, journals, reconciliations, and financial close, ensuring accurate period recognition and timely reports for project leadership.

• Manage project billing, WIP, receivables and cash flow impacts.
• Prepare and review project financial reports and explain movements.
• Maintain compliance with accounting standards and internal controls.
• Identify risks, control gaps and data quality issues; drive resolution.
• Provide technical accounting guidance across project activities.

Senior Project Accountant – Renewable Energy Corporate Project Accountant 15 Bonus

Synergie Australia is seeking an experienced Senior Project Accountant for a trusted client based in St Leonards, NSW.

• Pay: $55-60per hour + Super
• Duration: 2 November 2026 to 31 January 2027, with possible extension
• Location: St Leonards, NSW
• Hours: 38 hours per week
• Work arrangement: One to two remote days per week may be considered once you are fully trained and working independently

What you will be required to do:

You’ll manage end-to-end accounting and financial management across assigned projects, ensuring accurate results, strong controls and clear visibility of performance throughout the project lifecycle. This is a hands‑on senior role requiring sound accounting judgement and confident collaboration with finance and non‑finance stakeholders.

• Managing project accounting across setup, revenue and cost accounting, accruals, journals, reconciliations and financial close
• Delivering accurate and timely month-end and year-end results, adjustments and supporting controls
• Ensuring revenue and costs are recognised in the correct period and investigating material margin variances
• Managing project billing, work in progress, receivables and issues affecting cash collection
• Preparing and reviewing project financial reports and explaining key performance movements
• Maintaining compliance with accounting standards, finance policies, internal controls and audit requirements
• Identifying financial risks, control gaps and data quality issues, and driving timely resolution
• Providing technical accounting guidance and quality review across project activities

To be successful in the role you will:

• Strong knowledge of accounting standards, financial controls and general ledger reconciliations
• Demonstrated experience in senior project accounting or a closely related role
• A sound understanding of project accounting concepts and the link between operational and financial performance
• The ability to analyse gross margin, overhead ratios, fixed and variable costs, and other performance drivers
• Experience partnering with project managers and both finance and non‑finance stakeholders
• Strong stakeholder management, communication and influencing skills
• A collaborative approach with the ability to work effectively as part of a broader finance team
• SAP financial systems experience is highly regarded
• Experience with lifecycle management contracts is desirable
