Job summary

Synergie Australia is seeking an experienced Senior Project Accountant for a client in St Leonards, NSW. You will manage end-to-end project accounting, including setup, revenue and cost accounting, accruals and financial close, delivering accurate results with strong controls.

This hands-on senior role requires sound accounting judgement and the ability to collaborate with finance and non-finance stakeholders. Hybrid work with up to two remote days per week once trained, 38 hours per week.

Qualifications

• Experience in senior project accounting or closely related role.
• Strong understanding of project accounting concepts and link to operational and financial performance.
• Ability to analyse gross margin, overhead ratios and cost drivers.
• Experience partnering with project managers and finance/non-finance stakeholders.
• SAP experience is highly regarded.

Responsibilities

• Managing project accounting across setup, revenue and cost accounting, accruals, journals, reconciliations and financial close.
• Delivering accurate month-end and year-end results, adjustments and controls.
• Ensuring revenue and costs are recognised in the correct period and investigating material margin variances.
• Managing project billing, work in progress, receivables and cash collection issues.
• Preparing and reviewing project financial reports and explaining key movements.
• Maintaining compliance with accounting standards, policies, controls and audit requirements.
• Identifying financial risks, control gaps and data quality issues, driving timely resolution.
• Providing technical accounting guidance and quality review across project activities.

Synergie Australia is seeking an experienced Senior Project Accountant for a trusted client based in St Leonards, NSW.

The important parts:

• Pay: $55-60per hour + Super
• Duration: 2 November 2026 to 31 January 2027, with possible extension
• Location: St Leonards, NSW
• Hours: 38 hours per week
• Work arrangement: One to two remote days per week may be considered once you are fully trained and working independently

What you will be required to do:

You’ll manage end-to-end accounting and financial management across assigned projects, ensuring accurate results, strong controls and clear visibility of performance throughout the project lifecycle. This is a hands on senior role requiring sound accounting judgement and confident collaboration with finance and non-finance stakeholders.

• Managing project accounting across setup, revenue and cost accounting, accruals, journals, reconciliations and financial close
• Delivering accurate and timely month-end and year-end results, adjustments and supporting controls
• Ensuring revenue and costs are recognised in the correct period and investigating material margin variances
• Managing project billing, work in progress, receivables and issues affecting cash collection
• Preparing and reviewing project financial reports and explaining key performance movements
• Maintaining compliance with accounting standards, finance policies, internal controls and audit requirements
• Identifying financial risks, control gaps and data quality issues, and driving timely resolution
• Providing technical accounting guidance and quality review across project activities

To be successful in the role you will:

• Strong knowledge of accounting standards, financial controls and general ledger reconciliations
• Demonstrated experience in senior project accounting or a closely related role
• A sound understanding of project accounting concepts and the link between operational and financial performance
• The ability to analyse gross margin, overhead ratios, fixed and variable costs, and other performance drivers
• Experience partnering with project managers and both finance and non-finance stakeholders
• Strong stakeholder management, communication and influencing skills
• A collaborative approach with the ability to work effectively as part of a broader finance team
• SAP financial systems experience is highly regarded
• Experience with lifecycle management contracts is desirable
