Job summary

Synergie Australia is seeking an experienced Senior Project Accountant for a trusted client based in St Leonards, NSW. The role covers end-to-end project accounting with strong emphasis on controls, reporting, and collaboration with finance and non-finance stakeholders.

You will manage revenue/cost recognition, invoicing, WIP, and financial close, delivering timely month-end/year-end results. A hands-on senior role requiring solid judgement and cross-functional engagement.

Senior Project Accountant

Synergie Australia is seeking an experienced Senior Project Accountant for a trusted client based in St Leonards, NSW.

The important parts:

• Pay: $55-60 per hour + Super
• Duration: 2 November 2026 to 31 January 2027, with possible extension
• Location: St Leonards, NSW
• Hours: 38 hours per week
• Work arrangement: One to two remote days per week may be considered once you are fully trained and working independently

What you will be required to do:

You’ll manage end-to-end accounting and financial management across assigned projects, ensuring accurate results, strong controls and clear visibility of performance throughout the project lifecycle. This is a hands‑on senior role requiring sound accounting judgement and confident collaboration with finance and non‑finance stakeholders.

• Managing project accounting across setup, revenue and cost accounting, accruals, journals, reconciliations and financial close
• Delivering accurate and timely month‑end and year‑end results, adjustments and supporting controls
• Ensuring revenue and costs are recognised in the correct period and investigating material margin variances
• Managing project billing, work in progress, receivables and issues affecting cash collection
• Preparing and reviewing project financial reports and explaining key performance movements
• Maintaining compliance with accounting standards, finance policies, internal controls and audit requirements
• Identifying financial risks, control gaps and data quality issues, and driving timely resolution
• Providing technical accounting guidance and quality review across project activities

To be successful in the role you will:

• Strong knowledge of accounting standards, financial controls and general ledger reconciliations
• Demonstrated experience in senior project accounting or a closely related role
• A sound understanding of project accounting concepts and the link between operational and financial performance
• The ability to analyse gross margin, overhead ratios, fixed and variable costs, and other performance drivers
• Experience partnering with project managers and both finance and non-finance stakeholders
• Strong stakeholder management, communication and influencing skills
• A collaborative approach with the ability to work effectively as part of a broader finance team
• SAP financial systems experience is highly regarded
• Experience with lifecycle management contracts is desirable
