Job summary

AFCA is seeking a Sessional Ombudsman for Investment & Advice disputes. The role offers flexible, per-engagement engagements with remote options, ideal for senior, legally qualified professionals who can drive fair, timely resolutions while guiding others.

Engagements range from one day per week to several days per month, with a board-appointed fixed-term of three years. The successful candidate will bring extensive legal expertise, experience in financial services, and the ability to explain

Qualifications

• Legal qualifications with senior executive experience.
• Experience in financial planning, stockbroking, managed funds, cryptocurrency, or derivatives.
• Experience in tribunals, EDR schemes, regulatory agencies, related business entities, or private practice.
• Strong analytical skills to manage complex issues and a busy caseload.
• High-level written and verbal skills to engage with the insurance sector and community.
• Ability to explain complex concepts simply.
• Skills to verbally explain decisions to firms and complainants.
• Ability to coach and mentor junior staff.
• Strong resilience and focus to handle challenges and public scrutiny.
• Excellent engagement skills to build positive relationships.

Responsibilities

• Provide senior dispute resolution on I&A matters.
• Resolve complex complaints with independence and accuracy.
