Job summary

Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA) in Sydney seeks a senior Sessional Ombudsman for Investment & Advice disputes. You will contribute senior-level judgement, lead complex matters, and engage with regulators, industry bodies, and consumer groups in a flexible, per-engagement capacity.

The role is board‑appointed and fixed‑term (three years) with remote work options and a strong emphasis on fair outcomes and sector improvement.

Qualifications

• Legal qualifications with senior executive experience.
• Experience in financial planning, stockbroking, managed funds, cryptocurrency, or derivatives.
• Experience in tribunals, EDR schemes, regulatory agencies, related business entities, or private practice.
• Strong analytical skills to manage complex issues and a busy caseload.
• High‑level written and verbal skills to engage with the insurance sector and community.
• Ability to coach and mentor junior staff.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to fair and timely dispute resolution within the I&A sector.
• Engage with regulatory, industry and consumer stakeholders to address issues.
• Provide leadership and guidance in dispute resolution for senior professionals.
• Support the development of sector standards and best practices.
