Job summary

Glencore’s McArthur River Mine in the Gulf of Carpentaria seeks a Mechanical Reliability Engineer – Fixed Plant to provide engineering and reliability support to the Processing Plant maintenance team.

You will lead root cause analysis, optimise maintenance strategies, and collaborate with Maintenance, Planning, Operations and OEMs to improve asset health and safety; the role covers crushers, grinding mills, conveyors and filtration equipment at the fixed plant.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• Experience in mechanical maintenance and reliability in mining or heavy industry.

About The Role:

Reporting to the Senior Reliability Engineer, this role provides mechanical engineering and reliability support to the Fixed Plant Maintenance team.

The role is responsible for improving the safety, reliability, availability and maintainability of processing plant assets through practical engineering, maintenance improvement and reliability practices.

Working closely with Maintenance Execution, Planning, Operations, Engineering and external service providers, you will provide technical support to resolve equipment issues, improve maintenance effectiveness, eliminate recurring failures and optimise asset performance.

The role has a strong focus on fixed plant equipment within the processing operation, including crushing, grinding mills, flotation and Larox filtration systems.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide mechanical engineering and technical support to Maintenance Execution teams across the processing plant.
• Provide technical expertise for critical fixed plant equipment, including crushers, grinding mills, conveyors, pumps and Larox filtration equipment.
• Investigate equipment failures, recurring defects and production losses, identifying practical and sustainable corrective actions.
• Lead and support root cause analysis, defect elimination and reliability improvement initiatives.
• Review equipment performance and maintenance history to identify opportunities to improve reliability, maintainability, availability and asset life.
• Develop, review and optimise preventive and predictive maintenance strategies, maintenance tactics and inspection requirements.
• Support the development and improvement of maintenance work instructions, job plans, maintenance standards and repair scopes.
• Provide engineering input into equipment repairs, modifications, upgrades and improvement projects, including technical specifications and acceptance criteria.
• Work with Maintenance Planning to ensure maintenance activities are effectively scoped, planned and scheduled.
• Work with Operations and Maintenance Execution to identify and address equipment performance issues and operational constraints.
• Apply condition monitoring and reliability engineering techniques to identify developing equipment defects and manage asset health.
• Analyse maintenance, equipment and condition-monitoring data to support evidence-based engineering decisions.
• Support equipment criticality assessments, risk assessments, lifecycle planning and maintenance strategy reviews.Provide technical support to major shutdowns, equipment rebuilds and significant maintenance activities where required.
• Liaise with OEMs, specialist contractors and suppliers to resolve technical issues and improve equipment performance.
• Support commissioning and reliability assurance of new or modified plant and equipment.
• Mentor and support developing engineers and maintenance personnel in mechanical reliability and equipment maintenance practices.
• Complete work to a high standard and within agreed timeframes.
• Effectively manage priorities to maximise productivity and resource efficiency.
• Uphold company values and maintain a strong commitment to health, safety and environmental standards.
• Communicate clearly and professionally, building effective working relationships across Maintenance, Operations, Engineering and other stakeholders.

Key Requirements:

• Tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• Demonstrated experience in mechanical maintenance, plant engineering, reliability engineering or a similar role within mining, mineral processing or heavy industry.
• Strong practical knowledge of fixed plant maintenance and mechanical equipment.
• Demonstrated experience with fixed plant processing equipment such as crushing, mill and filtration.
• Experience in investigating equipment failures and implementing practical engineering solutions.
• Demonstrated experience in root cause analysis, defect elimination and reliability improvement.
• Understanding of maintenance strategies, preventive maintenance and maintenance optimisation.
• Experience working with maintenance management systems such as SAP or equivalent CMMS.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret equipment performance, maintenance and condition-monitoring data.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with Maintenance, Operations, Planning, Engineering, OEMs and contractors.
• A strong commitment to safety, quality and continuous improvement.
