Job summary

Nepean Hospital within the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District is seeking a Registered Nurse to join the General Surgery team in a temporary role. The position focuses on delivering perioperative and postoperative nursing care, creating individualized care plans, and coordinating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure high-quality patient outcomes.

The role requires current AHPRA registration, experience in general surgery, and flexibility to work a roaster that may include day, evening

Qualifications

  • Current registration to practice as a Registered Nurse ( Division 1 ) with AHPRA.
  • Experience in general surgery and perioperative/postoperative care.
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team and adapt to a flexible roster.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver safe and effective nursing care across perioperative and postoperative pathways.
  • Develop and evaluate individualised care plans for patients.
  • Monitor patients pre- and post-operatively and administer medications per hospital policies.
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation and provide patient education and discharge planning.
  • Collaborate with medical, allied health and nursing colleagues to ensure seamless care.

We are seeking a motivated and compassionate Registered Nurse to join the General Surgery team at Nepean Hospital in a temporary role. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled Nurse to work within a supportive multidisciplinary team and provide high-quality, patient-centred care to surgical patients throughout their hospital journey.

As a Registered Nurse in General Surgery, you will be responsible for delivering safe and effective Nursing care across the Perioperative and Postoperative patient journey while working collaboratively with Medical, Allied Health and Nursing colleagues.

This is a role that will provide high-quality, evidence-based Nursing care to patients undergoing general surgical procedures, conduct comprehensive patient assessments and develop, implement and evaluate individualised care plans, monitor patients pre- and post-operatively, recognising and responding appropriately to changes in clinical condition, administer medications and treatments safely and in accordance with hospital policies and procedures, provide education and support to patients and their families regarding surgical procedures, recovery and discharge planning and maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation.

What you will bring to the role
  1. Current registration to practice as a Registered Nurse (Division 1) with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority (AHPRA)
  2. Demonstrated experience and clinical skill as a Registered Nurse (including completion of a new graduate year or equivalent experience working as a registered Nurse).
  3. Demonstrated capacity to provide effective Nursing care that is person centred, family inclusive and culturally sensitive to people accessing health services.
  4. Demonstrated ability to organise and prioritise work
  5. Demonstrated effective communications written and verbal skills
  6. Demonstrated commitment to professional development
  7. Ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team
