Job summary

The Mater Hospital Sydney is seeking a Registered Nurse to join the Cardiac Ward on a casual basis. You will provide compassionate, expert nursing care to patients with cardiac conditions, monitor rhythms, and support post-operative recovery in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.

Applicants must hold NMBA registration in Australia, with demonstrated experience in cardiology or neurosurgery or critical care, excellent assessment, rapid escalation, and patient-focused communication.

Qualifications

• Current NMBA registration as a Registered Nurse.
• Clinical experience in cardiology, neurosurgery, acute medical or critical care.
• Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking and escalation skills.
• Excellent communication and patient-centred teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert nursing care to cardiac patients and complex neurosurgical cases.
• Monitor cardiac rhythms and interpret telemetry; manage specialised meds.
• Perform neurological assessments and post‑op spinal/cranial care.
• Collaborate with cardiologists, surgeons and the multidisciplinary team.
• Educate patients and families on recovery and long‑term health.

About The Role

• You will provide expert clinical nursing care to patients with acute cardiac conditions and complex neurosurgical interventions.

• You will monitor cardiac rhythms, interpret telemetry, and manage specialised cardiac medications.

• You will perform neurological assessments (GCS monitoring, neurovascular checks) and manage post‑operative spinal/cranial patients.

• You will collaborate closely with cardiologists, neurosurgeons, allied health professionals, and the multidisciplinary team.

• You will educate patients and their families on post‑procedure recovery, rehabilitation, and long‑term health management.

About You

• Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) as a Registered Nurse

• Demonstrated clinical experience in cardiology, neurosurgery, acute medical and/ or critical care environments.

• Strong skills in complex clinical assessment, critical thinking and rapid escalation.

• Exceptional communication, time management and patient centred teamwork skills.
