Job description

Department of Transport and Main Roads QLD – Brisbane QLD

The Translink Operations Centre (TOC) plays a critical role in keeping Queensland's public transport network moving. As a Communications Coordinator, you will create and deliver real-time customer communications during unplanned disruptions across bus, rail, ferry and light rail services.

Working in a fast-paced operational environment, you'll monitor live service information, prepare customer updates, support incident response activities and provide timely communications to stakeholders. Your work will help customers make informed travel decisions while supporting the efficient operation of Queensland's public transport network.

This is a permanent full-time shift-work opportunity based in Brisbane, operating on a fixed rotating roster including overnights, weekends and public holidays. Penalty rates apply for work performed outside normal business hours.

The Translink Operations Centre (TOC) is the central hub for public transport operations across Queensland, supporting the safe and reliable delivery of bus, rail, ferry and light rail services. Working in a dynamic 24/7 environment, the Operational Customer Communications team provides timely and accurate information to customers and stakeholders during service disruptions.

THE ROLE:
Some of your responsibilities as our Communications Coordinator will include:
• Creating and delivering operational customer communication in line with unplanned disruption communication policy across the Translink public transport network, including bus, rail, light rail and ferry services.
• Monitoring and analysing real-time disruption trends to produce timely and accurate customer messaging so public transport customers have the latest information to support their travel plans and stay informed throughout their journey.
• Preparing comprehensive incident briefs for internal and external stakeholders, providing clear, accurate and relevant information to support senior leaders' decision-making.
• Collaborating effectively within the Translink Operations Centre team, leveraging advanced systems and subject matter experts' knowledge to deliver high-quality operational customer communications.
• Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance operational communication processes and improve the timeliness of customer notifications.

ABOUT YOU:
You are a skilled communicator who remains calm and focused in a fast-paced operational environment. You have experience producing clear, accurate and customer-focused communications and can quickly assess information from multiple sources.

You are able to communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders, exercise sound judgement and manage competing priorities in time-critical situations. Strong attention to detail, digital literacy and a willingness to learn new systems will support your success in the role.

Most importantly, you are committed to delivering high-quality customer communications that help keep Queensland's public transport network running safely and efficiently.

WHY JOIN US:
We can offer you benefits such as:
• Work and life balance and a 36.25-hour working week.
• An Enterprise Bargaining Agreement providing regular pay increases and other benefits.
• Generous superannuation of 12.75%.
• Paid parental leave for eligible employees.
• A range of development opportunities including unlimited use of LinkedIn Learning.
• Access to an Employee Assistance Service and more.

We recognise and celebrate that everyone is unique and seek the applicant best suited to the role. We will assess your experience, knowledge and acquired skills, as well as your potential for development and your personal qualities. We strongly encourage applicants from all life experiences and backgrounds to apply.
