Job summary

Hitachi Rail is seeking a Services Engineer in Sydney, Australia, to provide remote, on-call, shift-based, and on-site technical support for CCS and COM systems within the MTS service environment. The role covers fault diagnosis, maintenance, testing, and system upgrades to ensure SLA-aligned performance.

You will maintain accurate records, liaise with internal teams and external vendors, and participate in an on-call roster including nights and weekends, contributing to high-availability

Qualifications

• Broad understanding of railway COM and CCS.
• Strong working knowledge of SCADA and integrated railway systems.
• Experience supporting operational rail, transport, or critical infrastructure environments.
• Demonstrated experience delivering preventive and corrective maintenance activities.
• Experience with fault diagnosis, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and technical investigations.
• Knowledge of incident management, SLA-based service delivery, maintenance, and asset management practices.
• Experience supporting upgrades, modifications, equipment replacement, and engineering changes.
• Experience supporting testing, commissioning, and transition-to-service activities.
• Experience managing tickets and changes through to closure.
• Experience coordinating with internal engineering teams, suppliers, and external stakeholders.
• Strong communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and participate in on-call roster.

Responsibilities

• Perform remote monitoring, fault diagnosis, and troubleshooting, plus site visits as needed.
• Conduct preventive maintenance including health checks, diagnostics, and reliability improvements.
• Carry out corrective maintenance including root cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Support system upgrades, equipment replacement, configuration changes, and software updates.
• Provide technical support for testing, commissioning, and transition-to-service activities.
• Maintain maintenance records, technical docs, and customer communications with regular status updates.
• Participate in on-call roster and perform shift work, including out-of-hours.
• Build relationships with Metro Trains Sydney, Hitachi Rail teams, and suppliers to ensure quality service.
