Job summary

LINMAG Australia provides specialist rail milling and reprofiling services across Australia. The company seeks an experienced rail professional with a strong mechanical background to join the Rutherford team.

The role is hands-on as an operator/maintainer, with 60–70% machine operation and opportunities for advancement within a small, skilled team. You’ll be trained in our specialist rail milling technology and will work on projects across heavy-haul, metropolitan and regional networks.

Qualifications

• Willingness to work night shifts, weekends and travel as required.

Job description

LINMAG Australia provides specialist rail milling and reprofiling services to major rail networks across Australia. Part of an Austrian-owned international group specialising in rail milling technology, we've been operating in Australia for more than 10 years.

We're a small, experienced team operating highly specialised machinery, which means every person in our crew plays an important role.

We're now looking for an experienced rail professional with a strong mechanical background to join our team based in Rutherford.

The role

This is a hands-on operator/maintainer position, with approximately 60–70% of the role involving machine operation during rail milling works.

You’ll be trained in our specialist rail milling technology and work on projects across heavy-haul, metropolitan and regional rail networks.

Your work will include:

• Preventative maintenance and servicing of rail plant
• Mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic fault finding and repairs
• Basic electrical fault finding
• General repairs and mechanical installations
• Driving support vehicles between our Rutherford base and worksites
• Working closely within a small operational crew

Like most specialist rail maintenance roles, the work involves night shifts, weekends, interstate travel and working away depending on project requirements.

About you

We're particularly interested in people who already understand the rail environment and have a strong mechanical background.

You may currently be working in rail maintenance, rail grinding, track machines, hi-rail operations, mechanical fitting, heavy plant or a similar field.

You’ll ideally bring:

• Previous rail industry experience
• Strong mechanical skills and practical fault finding experience
• Experience operating and/or maintaining rail plant or heavy machinery
• Mechanical trade qualification or substantial relevant mechanical experience
• Current RIW Card
• Strong safety awareness and a professional approach
• Ability to work effectively within a small team
• Flexibility for nights, weekends and working away
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Category 1 Rail Medical

Also highly regarded

• Heavy Diesel / Mechanical Fitter / Hydraulic Fitter qualification
• HR or HC licence
• Hydraulic and pneumatic experience
• Electrical fault-finding experience
• Welding and fabrication
• Forklift, crane or dogging tickets
• PLC experience
• First Aid

This isn't a conventional track maintenance position.
