Job summary

Chandler Macleod is seeking an experienced Electrical or Mechanical Maintainer/Operator for Rio Tinto Rail Operations in the Pilbara. Based out of the 2 Mile Facility, you will safely operate and maintain track resurfacing equipment and support critical maintenance projects across a vast rail network.

Role requires 2+ years operating Plasser track machines, strong fault-finding skills, and a WA electrical or mechanical trade qualification.

Qualifications

• Must hold WA A Grade Electrical Licence or Mechanical Trade Certificate III.
• Certificate II Rail Infrastructure (Resurfacing) is required.
• Minimum 2 years' experience operating Plasser Track Machines.

Responsibilities

• Safely maintain and operate rail resurfacing equipment including Tampers, Regulators and Dynamic Stabilisers.
• Complete preventative maintenance, inspections and fault-finding activities.
• Diagnose and rectify mechanical, electrical and automation-related issues.
• Ensure all work complies with safety, environmental and quality standards.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation.
• Work collaboratively with operational and maintenance stakeholders.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on reliability and efficiency.
• Assist maintenance and renewal teams in the delivery of resurfacing projects.

About the Role

Based out of the 2 Mile Facility, you'll be responsible for safely operating and maintaining specialised rail resurfacing equipment while supporting critical track maintenance and renewal projects across the Rio Tinto rail network. Travel and overnight stays at various locations throughout the network will be required.

Key Responsibilities

• Safely maintain and operate rail resurfacing equipment including Tampers, Regulators and Dynamic Stabilisers.
• Complete preventative maintenance, inspections and fault-finding activities.
• Diagnose and rectify mechanical, electrical and automation-related issues.
• Ensure all work complies with safety, environmental and quality standards.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation.
• Work collaboratively with operational and maintenance stakeholders.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on reliability and efficiency.
• Assist maintenance and renewal teams in the delivery of resurfacing projects.
• Participate in training and development activities to maintain technical competency.

What You'll Bring

Essential Requirements

• Strong commitment to safety and teamwork.
• WA A Grade Electrical Licence OR Mechanical Trade Certificate III.
• Certificate II Rail Infrastructure (Resurfacing).
• Minimum 2 years' experience operating Plasser Track Machines.
• Minimum 2 years' experience with Plasser ALC systems (SMART ALC highly regarded).
• Experience with industrial control systems and automation.
• Strong fault-finding and diagnostic capabilities.
• Current Manual C Class Driver's Licence.
• Ability to interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work independently in remote environments.

Highly Desirable

• Previous rail industry experience.
• Heavy Rigid (HR) Licence.
• Plasser SMART ALC experience.
• Experience operating:
  • Plasser 08-475 4S Unimat
  • Plasser 093-X
  • SSP 305
  • SSP 303
• Certificate III Rail Infrastructure (Resurfacing).
